Ms. Janice, your storytelling voice fills up even the spaces where you don’t sing, 'cause it makes us want to follow it wherever it goes.

"Bud": Being behind the scenes recording the song actually only proves that what you can't see has everything to do with what you hear! Your "invisible" presence at the controls is as strongly felt as the quiet moment when a birthday boy or girl makes a silent wish before blowing out the candles on the cake.

What is the instrument that comes in wailing at around 1:50? Sounded simultaneously like a bass harmonica and an overdriven gee-tar! Regardless, for me its effect was to express the deeper, gutsier feeling under the politely passionate lyrics.

All in all, a "stop the world, I wanna get off" kind'a tune.

LOREN

P.S. Where in the forums do BIAB users congregate to collaborate? I posted the question elsewhere but haven't received a response yet. Thanks!

Loren,

Thanks for the wonderful review. The instrument at 1.50 was in fact a slide guitar.
As far as collaboration goes I'd suggest you send a personal message to a forum member via the user lists.

Very orthodox blues song!
Janis's vocals are perfect for this song.
The slide guitar is also very nice.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Thank you Shigeki for mentioning the vocal. I appreciate it! And I agree the slide is very nice.

That girl can sing anything, it seems. And gets better with every single recording (How can that be????)

A terrific listen.

Peter, your guitar work is excellent.... skillful, considered and a perfect fit.

Leon, the lyric rewrite was definitely worth the effort. I don't think I've ever heard the 'amuse me/enthuse me' rhyme anywhere before.

Janice, you OWN this style of music! Your singing carries us listeners along on the vocal equivalent of a magic carpet ride. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you.

In a nutshell, this is very, very good music.

All the best to you all,
Noel

Noel
Thank you for the comprehensive and positive review. I've passed your comments on to the lyricist.
I enjoyed the magic carpet ride comment and have to agree.

Janice Bud and Peter. Magic touch indeed. Each one of you have added his or own magic touch (with a little bit of BIAB thrown in) to make this excellent collaboration happen. Wonderful stuff!

Loren, I appreciate you saying that about my vocal. When Peter invited me to sing on this it was made easy and fun because of the great lyric and melody. BTW, Bud wanted me to mention that his contribution to this was engineering my vocal and that Peter had his hands on the controls! smile

Thanks!!

Of course, excellent vocals by Janice as always--and great vocal recording work Bud.

Great job everyone.

Janice, I think I'm starting to hear a flair of ragtime in your blues (lol). Maybe it is harkened by the piano in this song, but it is part of what gives you a unique signature.

Well done everyone!

Yep - what Floyd said. This is a real sweet collab. That great lyric, super backing tracks, Janice's incomparable voice and Bud's expertise "twisting the knobs" is a recipe for some really terrific listening. Kudos to all concerned!

Thanks for the review Alan & Di. Makes it easy to produce something good when the singer is so accomplished.
