Newbie here and I make what I figure will be many a newbie mistakes with BIAB but here goes.
I composed a song and instead of saving it in BAIB with the .SGU extention I moved it and saved it as both a .WAV and MP3.
That was my first mistake. Then I put it in Audacity and did a little tweaking.
I can import the file back into BIAB, but since it is not a .SGU file it will play but not show the chords, song title, style..well you get it.
I made created the song as a demo which is only 1:30 in duration. What I would like to know is it possible to get BIAB to read the information so I can edit the song in BIAB or is there another program I could use to mix or edit the file and complete the song for final recording, ie add two verses and a chorus.

Welcome to the forum, T.S. I don’t know how to reverse engineer a song in .WAV form. It’s equivalent to unbaking a cake to get back to sugar and flour etc.
You must have exited BIAB without saving the file ‘normally’ Are you sure you did that, and overlooked the warning##?
Assuming you did, your best bet is to put your effort into recreating the song in BIAB. You could get partway there by loading it into the ACW (File, Open Special, Launch Audio Chord Wizard) utility that come free with BIAB. This will get you closer with chords and tempo (and you already know the song name!).
## unless BIAB doesn't give a warning when a song is saved in another form; something I want to check

Matt, It was one of those rookie mistakes. I "THOUGHT" I had saved it before I exported it, but failed to, obviously after looking at the files.
It has really been an odd experience because I can't seem to recreate the song again the way the orginal turned out. Rookie mistake number two, alway make notes of all your setting so you can duplicate a sound you like.
I am tinkering with the original file in audacity to see if I can manipulate it.
Thanks for the reply.

Matt, Thanks for the info on theh Audio Chord Wizard. Openned it up and imported the song so at least I can see the chord progression. This might just get me back to where I needed to be!

I was just getting ready to suggest that!! Also look under style picker in "Recent Styles" and that will show you the style you were using, if that has not already been suggested. Always save all mgu or sgu files in different versions and backups to a folder specifically for those files. Also, did you search computer for the BIAB file? If you did not DELETE it it is there somewhere. Save your first version and your last and take a screen shot of the style in case something goes wonky later if you change computers.

Great advice there. David, this might help with the first part: https://youtu.be/ItUECpFi9_s

Matt, Loading the MP3 into Auto Chord Wizard did the trick. Lesson learned, always, and I mean always save your work, and make a seperate back up.
Thanks so much for the help!

Very good. Perhaps you can unbake some cakes after all.
If you want to get really extreme, Melodyne Editor (expensive) can pull out the melody notes for you. But hiring somebody like me to do a transcription is likely cheaper...

T. S. Player,
I save my songs in folders depending on what software I am using. For instance I have a BiaB song folder, a RealBand song folder and a Sonar song folder: my main DAW is Sonar. Thus sometimes I have the same song in three different folders but each with different treatments. If I either drastically change or make a few changes I will save the song title with a number after it. For example the original BiaB song would be songtitle, the first major change it would be songtitle-1, etc. This way I can go back to any stage of production if need be. Plus all songs, that is BiaB, RB and Sonar, are saved in their appropriate folders.
This is just the way I do it and I'm sure others have their own methods of keeping things straight.
I hope this helped.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

MarioD, Thanks for the reply. It was my very first song right after installing the software so I wasn't familiar with where it was saving the files and such. I have now started setting up different files for my programs as well.

Well, I wouldn't say you can unbake the cake. It did get me back to where I needed to be so I could get the song back.

David, Thanks for the suggestion about the file still being in BIAB. I am having major issues with the BIAB program and started doing a back up of the songs I have created and you were right, the first song was tucked away in a file. I had just failed to name it correctly but I found it and backed it up to an external drive.

Great! Glad you found it! I knew it was in there somewhere. If you notice that your computer drive gets smaller and smaller every day, then you soon find out that unless you delete, it's in there somewhere!!! (Including the 50 million old update patches of windows you don't need unless you get rid of those too. And don't even get me started on app data folders.)
