In short, RealBand would allow you to add extra RealTracks for that punchy brass section, country backing band, orchestra etc. It also allows you to regenerate parts of a RealTrack for those dodgy bits. Finally you can use the multiriff section to create multiple tracks, bits of tracks and choose the bits you prefer. All also great for solos. There's more stuff, such as envelopes for fading in and out etc, but I do most other stuff in Reaper. I reckon you could play live from Reaper and have an awesome live set, which I'm working on, but I would still go through RealBand first. Having said that, like yourself, at the moment I use wav or mp3 files as backing tracks for live work and BIAB 2017 with jukebox for live streaming, which I do much more of. All good.
