Take note of how the Seaboard encourages expressive playing differences between the staccato portions and the legato portions. This kid also plays a really believable David Gilmour 'The Wall' solo on a video on Facebook. I couldn't find it directly on YouTube. Honestly, not watching the screen, it's a dang good guitar solo in it's own right, and he's doing it on a keyboard. Most guitar players that love that solo would love to get somewhat as close as he does with a seaboard. I'll try to post a link to that video here, but make no promises that it will work.

I'd really like to have one of those Roli keyboards but I fully expect some practical use limitations for ME.

Having learned how precise and clean your fingering and picking has to be for MIDI guitar to avoid false triggers, etc. (every time I pick up a MIDI guitar I have to first stop, think, and really pay attention to my playing and I've been using a MIDI guitar since 1990) I KNOW I would have issues with the Roli becasue I suspect its triggering would be my downfall.

I'm not a very good keyboard player in the first place (all my keyboards are used for the internal sounds and as another way to input/record MIDI notes/chords in addition to MIDI guitar). When my hands go into the "horizontal" the left hand becomes a lump of ham, and my right is also heavy handed - I tend to rest unused fingers on unused keys, I suspect that would be a real problem on the Roli and now it's a habit that would take too much effort for me to re-train/re-learn what little keyboard playing I can do.

and it appears that if the "key (call that the X-axis) is a note then the "Y-axis" (front to back on key) is like a sting bend but MORE than that it can add other effects, more vibrato, more pitch change, more sound layering, more/less bow attack, etc. so you have to really learn WHERE to place finger in key as well has how much velocity (finally I get to the Z-axis) to apply. Otherwise too many false notes, wrong sound, wrong FX, etc.

For me, me alone, it would be a waste of money - but it would be fun to play with (maybe after I get a Kemper head and rack unit)

It looked pretty cool, but I agree, I would probably play it awfully. And I don't want to shell out the $800-$1000 or so (depending on where you buy it) to find out.

Setting aside the instrument that kid is a really good musician!

This version of "Eleanor Rigby" is one of the best that I have ever heard.

Larry, the left hand becomes a lump of ham is also my problem! I wonder if other guitarist have that problem?

John, there is a 25 key version for $299:

https://roli.com/products/blocks/seaboard-block

If I get $300 that is not accounted for I just might pick this one up. I can only use my right hand, see my message to Larry, so this may be all that I need.

Here's that Gilmore link for those interested. The sounds are all from the Roli's onboard Equator software. Wow!!!

That's not the David Gilmour solo I am talking about. The video is only available on facebook apparently. It is seriously good, and if you don't watch the screen, you would swear it's someone doing the solo on a guitar with nearly the same timbre as what Gilmour has.

I wish there was a YouTUbe of it, but there is not.

Here's another killer guitar solo on the Seaboard Rise. Get the youtube going and then look away. This guy has the touch DOWN.
