No. Ctrl + E is correct. My directions were incorrect.

My brain said Ctrl + E but my fingers typed Ctrl + 5. I think there was a short circuit someplace.

So the program is set to MME and it doesn't like letting you switch to ASIO. Do you have any other choices to choose from?
Do you have multiple programs open when this happens? You may need to look at Task Manager to determine if any other activity like a media player, browser page or YouTube video trying to use the audio engine.
