Well as someone who never lived in the US or visited it so far, though I would love to, it is interesting to learn how people who live there do think about this issue.

Though to be honest it does seem a little early after such a tragedy to be discussing this, out of respect for the poor innocent victims.

Personally it would totally horrify me to have a gun around the house, I don't think anyone could convince me that I would need one for any sort of protection. I couldn't even sleep peacefully in my bed at night knowing that a gun was around, even though it was in some sort of safe, locked away. I think most of the ordinary people here think the same way, though they are some who do possess weapons for other reasons.

But then again because guns are not so prevalent around here and owned by the average person, that brings a sort of security in itself, I don't expect anyone to break into my house brandishing a gun (though break in's do occur)

And God forbid that the day will ever come that I feel that I have to carry a gun when out for a walk as Mario has stated.
