In RB you would assign that particular track to a designated port.
Right-click menu (on the track) offers the Port options.
Then that track's MIDI gets sent to the assigned Port (the external synth)
The actual Port selection name would depend on the external synth driver you desired and how it was connected.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
