It sounds as though there is some kind of loopback / feedback problem.

In BiaB, try Return to Factory Settings as a starting point.

What versions of everything are you running? Windows? BiaB? RealBand?

What is your computer configuration?

Please give more information about everything otherwise it is difficult to know where to start to try and assist.

Also what is your audio interface and how do you have it configured wire wise? Do you get this feedback when you are recording? If so what MIDI controller are you using? Keyboard? Guitar? etc

hi, thanks for your response...I am using Win 10 with the latest BIAB and R/Band updates for 2017 along with a Roland Quad Capture with the Asio Driver, CloudLifter mic enhancer, and Shure SM7B Mic. An h8-1417c PC with I7 processor and 12GB ddr3 ram.

**This feedback/distortion and higher volume levels also now exists in all audio playback. (Videos, mp3, dvd, etc.

**This happened due to a system crash when I went to a different DAW that uses the same asio driver.

Have you had a look to see if there are any Windows speaker settings on?

Some audio drivers come with the ability to add echo, reverb, etc.

Also, have you tried by plugging in other speakers that you know work properly? With the distortion, the fact that it affects all audio makes me wonder if the speakers were damaged by the crash.

Hi

All good advice to find an illusive answer

Try a System Restore to a date before your crash

Or - Configuration Files

Band-in-a-Box uses the following files for configuration. If you want to restore Band-in-a-Box to the "factory settings" you may erase these files (or rename them).

MYSETUP.DK

This file contains:

- MIDI Channels/Patches/Volumes/Reverb/Chorus/Bank

- Patch Map

- Favorite Patches, Favorite Combos settings

- Drum Kit

(Each of the other .DK files also contains this information)

INTRFACE.BBW

This file contains info specific to Band-in-a-Box for Windows, such as the name of current MIDI drivers, Wizard status, etc.

If you would like to restore Band-in-a-Box to "factory settings" you can exit Band-in-a-Box, delete these configuration files from the \bb directory, and reboot Band-in-a-Box. Or choose Options | Return to Factory Settings.

This restores the file INTRFACE.BBW to original settings with the option to either include or exclude the MIDI drivers and patch maps.

All good information thus far.

Are you using Roland ASIO drivers or Win 10 drivers for your Quad Capture? I had distortion with my Roland Octa-Capture ASIO drivers but after I switched to Win 10 drivers for it all was good.

Also check in the device manager to see if your mother board audio interface is active. I had to disable my mother board Realtek audio drivers as they were interfering with my Octa-Capture. Be aware that some Win 10 updates turns them back on so you have to look after each Win 10 update.

Also check your gain levels. Sending a very hot (high volume) signal to any audio interface can cause distortion. As you probably already know you have to watch gain staging very carefully.

I hope this helps.

Hi, the echo problem seems to be less intense only at higher volumes. also, if I use the output volume on the Roland Quad Capture instead of turning up on the computer, there is less distortion since the Roland Quad is set to be the default sound conveyance.

Do you use any specific settings on your roland interface (Gate, Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Gain, etc. after you set your volume input settings? Or, do you just set initialize in the pull down menu and use the BIAB/R/Band settings as required?

This problem happened once before after a crash. And, a check item in options/preferences eliminated it. I usually keep screen shots of the setup when things are working correctly.
