I'm usually pretty good at figuring out chord progressions and melodies from old R & B and rock n' roll recordings. However I've been stumped by this instrumental by the great Link Wray called The Steel Trap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWv0Yk-Cl2g

My trouble is with he 9th and 10th measure of the first two 12 bar sections after the intro. It appears to be a minor blues progression in Am. The chord I hear in the 9th measure is an F7, and in the 10th measure an E7, before the Am,Dm Am turnaround in measures 11 and 12. However, the melody line on the guitar that I'm hearing over the F7 and E7 measures is E to D over the F7 and then B to E over the E7. When I set the tune up in BIAB the E to D in measure 9 just doesn't sound right over the F7 chord.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Frank
