a slightly more technical comment.
I've been listening to this song a few times.
And it gets better every time I do :-)
But on a more technical note, I just want to notice how beautiful is the passage from the first verse to the first chorus. At that point, the listener expects a change of chords. After "It’s the only thing that I know how to do" the ears are really "ripe" for a change of chords. But ... you don't change. You repeat "I will stand by you" twice on the SAME chord. And ... it works incredibly well. It's magical because you surprise the listener by NOT changing. And that makes the actual change of chord progression, as it happens a couple of lines later, at "top of the hill", even more inspiring, more powerful, more beautiful.

Very inspired song, very inspiring.
