I am developing my sensitivity to rhythms, and I was wondering if their is a way to mute part of a midi looped drumtrack so that I can only hear the part that I am trying to align my sensitivity to? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Can you provide an example to illustrate the question or ask the question a little differently? I'd hate to just guess at the meaning of your question and add more confusion.

If you have multi-drums, there's one answer. But I suspect you might just be asking about muting a percussion track where you want to. If so, then press F5 at the measure, and look at the controls for each track. You can mute any track, or all tracks or a combination. You can also change the volume. Don't forget to go to the later bar and unmute or change the volume, the same way. Is that what you need to know? Or does your "midi looped drumtrack" have multiple percussion instruments in one track?

all of my drum parts are on the same track, i haven't split them. So i'm asking if there is an easy way to mute a key in a piano roll?

OH!

Maybe. In a typical piano roll of percussion, every MIDI percussion instrument has a separate pitch, so highlighting that line and pressing DEL deletes that instrument. I'll look if that can be done in BIAB.

If the Drum Track is MIDI, the yes, you should be able to change the velocity of individual notes in the Piano Roll window.

Select the Drum Track (top left), make sure velocity is selected, then adjust the velocity of each beat by dragging the vertical bar.

What I was hoping is not to adjust the velocity , rather only have the hi hats and bass drum happening with the other useful drums muted to develop the proper counting through a beat. I'm trying to improve my variety and flexibility of styles; but I have to appreciate how to count to develop a feel for the right feeling. Developed by count and relaxation.

What I described will only adjust the velocity of certain drum instruments, not the entire drum kit.

You should be able to lower the volume (to zero if required) for any instrument in the kit.

You would have to freeze through immediately, as MIDI Drums would be generated each time you press Play.

Sometimes with an imported MIDI multichannel track i look at the individual channels & notes being there in the piano-roll editor. Then i make a copy of that onto the soloist track, to switch back if needed (by copying).

Then i erase the MIDI and re-import the original MIDI track selecting only the channel i need. For drums that's usually channel 10.

Maybe there's a quicker way, but i would like to see a BIAB with more flexible tracks than just the two, and advanced editing possibilities (like splitting a mutlti midi automatically onto different tracks all at once). Of course one can use RealBand, but getting back your edits into BIAB might not be so easy. -F

Great tip to copy to the Soloist or Melody track also. Good idea.

Hi Methodman,

If you go to Options - Preferences - Drum Kit - Set Drum Volumes, you can mute individual drum sounds within the kit, or make them louder or quieter.

Is that what you're looking for?

This won't affect RealDrums, of course, and is a global setting (not song-specific).

Thanks
Kent
