I have been looking at the tutorials and parts of the manual but I must be missing something. The transition length is only about a measure at each point. But, how can I insert it?

Just click on the measure-number which correspondes to each section in your ABAABCA. When you do this the color of the meaure-number will change and it will insert a small "a". This is a section marker and it will invoke a drum fill transtion in the prior measure. Then go to the next section, your B, and click on it twice, it will turn green and insert a small "b". Again this is a section marker and the drum fill will be inserted prior to it. The newer versions support up to 4 differenct section markers (a, b, c, d), but you only may need the two to get the effect you want.

Give it a try and see if this is what you are looking for.
