Is there any way to add custom chord voicings?

I an trying to produce a song that I wrote on guitar and it is a fingerstyle arrangement.

The logical starting off point for a biab song is chord entry and the only way to get biab to create accompaniment (that I am aware of) is to enter the name of the chord. Biab has a finite set of chords and the one that I want to use is not being found.
The closest chords I find for my riff are ( D, D2,Dsus ) but when I enter those chords, the realtrack guitarist is playing notes that detract from what I want to hear. Ideally, I would like to create my own voicing for a chord and use that chord, to prevent those undesirable notes from sounding.

I have used the chord builder to be sure that I am getting the correct chord names. I have also used chord identifiers found on the net. The result is still not satisfactory.

I think the only way to achieve what I am doing it to just create a melody or solo track. But then my realtrack band is not contributing as I would like them to do.

Does that make sense? Am I missing something?

It is a fairly simple accompaniment but the rogue notes being played are not acceptable. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi

Have you tried “Force track to simple arrangement.

Right click in the mixer track./ Select track settings,/ select Force track to simple arrangement.
This may take out enough worth a try.

Also, using chords such as C5, F5, etc., are worth trying.

If you, or someone you know, can play it, record the part. The audio will be exactly what you want.

Thank you all for the feedback. I do appreciate it. But what I am really looking for is not a work-around but if/how it is possible to do it naturally via biab. IF I have to do a work-around, I will probably just create a solo track and play it as I wrote it on the guitar. I am just trying to get all that I can out of the tool.

Thanks again,
Paul

BIAB Real Tracks does not allow you to set chord voicing.

Thanks again for the feedback. You raise an interesting question though. I wonder if I could create my own realtrack, using the elusive riff and use that... I'm not ready for that level of advanced usage yet, though, I don't think. Also, I wonder if a midi accompaniment would be more flexible?...

A MIDI version is a lot more flexible. Find a MIDI style that is close to want you want, either use the piano roll or notation in BiaB or drag and drop the file into a DAW. Using MIDI and the piano roll/notation in BiaB/DAW you can place the notes in any place you like. You can also add or delete notes.

If you are using the stock GM program that comes with BiaB you may be disappointed in the sound. Either run the track into Amplitude or better yet purchase a better MIDI sound source.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Paul,

Have a look at the below video clip on User Tracks. These are user-created Realtracks that might do the job for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RSYeaT3H6A

Also, using Realband to create an acidized loop of the riff you are after might be useful, too. Acidized loops have the ability to be time-stretched and pitch-shifted.

That will certainly work Noel but may be overkill for several reasons. First, the poster may not need the recorded audio in more keys than this one song requires alleviating the need to record a User Track template. Second, the riff or strumming pattern may not transition well into other styles and songs.

The acidized riff may be more useful but, with the ability to insert audio at any bar throughout a song, if the original poster is using a repeating riff, simply record the audio and drop onto the Audio track at the various bars. Alternately, he can record through the whole song and play in the bars where the riff is desired and rest between those bars.

pchurchfield, there is nothing advanced about recording audio in BIAB or RB, Audacity or any DAW. You would either need to play along listening on headphones to the BIAB backing track or play along to a click track. Ideally, both.

Midi is also a good choice and it gives you a lot of control.

My thought is that since you already know how to play the riff for your song, that will be the easiest. If you don't have an audio interface, you can record through your soundcard input or purchase an inexpensive interface like a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 $29.99 for your guitar input and a mic input if your guitar is acoustic.

This and related questions about the Real Tracks comes up a lot. RT's are prerecorded by a studio musician. If your specific voicing was recorded you can find it but if not you can't change it without using a program like the full version of Melodyne. The problem with that is it costs about $500.

Bob's Mantra "Audio is not midi, midi is not audio, ommmmmm". The RT's are prerecorded audio, asking to change that is like asking how to change a part on a commercial recording. Midi is no problem, you can do whatever you want with that.

Thanks again everybody. I'm very impressed with the group support I've been finding here. I have a decent audio interface and I'm pretty proficient at production and music techniques, as well as midi. My primary reason for asking the question was not to find "a way to to it" but rather whether or not the tool supports custom chord voicings. I think that the answer to my question is simply no. At least for now. Thanks again everybody. I really like the community support. Hopefully I can give back soon. Best regards, Paul
