I've read that last sentence three times now and still don't quite know what exactly you're asking  When you go to "mixer" it lists some tracks--bass, piano 1, drums, guitar, and so on. And in notation mode or in lead sheet or fakesheet mode, along the menu across the top it has small boxes containing capital letters. For example: B,P,D,G,S,P,S The actual letters displayed varies. If you put your mouse over a letter a message something like this appears: P:Piano,[trackslot:Melody] When you open a brand new file, it has a small box with an M for melody. but after you pick a style, the M box disappears. Apparently an instrument gets slotted into the melody track, or something, after you select a style.
