Sorry, got fed-up hunting for anything on this topic as it's such a common word! grin BIAB won't accept WAS as the audio driver in my version of Windows 10. Does it work? Is there any benefit? I use WASAPI (I assume the same.) for Reaper with no problem. I just switched back to MME to get BIAB 2018 back working again.

Neil,

The WAS driver reduces latency. Like many ASIO drivers, though, it can be a 'one audio program at a time' scenario in that if you have WAS in BIAB and that has the focus, it's more than likely you won't hear anything in Reaper.

There have also been a few instances on the forum here where WAS hasn't played friendly with BIAB.

If you don't play directly through BIAB and so latency is not an issue, I'd stay with MME. (That's what I use.)

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel. This is the error message. @Windows audio session error: Could not open stream. The error number is -9998.' I'm not using Reaper at the moment, but I know WASAPI works ok in Reaper. I'll just stay with MMI, but I guess someone should report it to PG Music if it's a bug?

Ahhh, ok...

If my memory is correct, that error arises when your soundcard is set to a playback of 16 or 24 bit, 48000Hz. Try changing your soundcard settings to 16, 44,100 and see if that helps.

Also, the checkboxes under than setting that let the application take exclusive control of the soundcard would be worth turning on, too.

I'm on 510 Fiddler, and I've got those settings Noel. smile Frankly, it's the least of my worries. I'm about to do a gig and I wanted to add a few new backing tracks. BIAB won't render at all for me in any format. It seems to be a new menu. I'll live, but it's annoying.

I switched back to WAP and it seems to be ok now. No idea why, except that I switched off the PC this morning. I didn't change any of my audio driver settings except to switch on the DXi/VSTi check box under audio settings.
