Greetings all,

I haven't posted anything for years but I upgraded to BIAB 2018 and have done a couple of hymn covers. Here's the 1st one. FYI, I almost always repay critiques and I really appreciate any comments about things that might be improved.

Me: Piano, Vocal and the keyboard melody instrument,

BIAB real tracks and drums:
1255 Bass
1256 guitar
1766 mandolin
1758 banjo
Praise and Worship shine drums
Mixed in Sonar w/ Ozone 5.

This is probably not the final mix so critiques on the mix are much appreciated.

Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey:
Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day;
Let all the faithful serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone,
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor. Each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls, or danger be never wanting there.

From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

Words: George Duffield, Jr., alt.
Music: George J. Webb (Words and music are in the public domain)

Hi Ian,

What an arrangement! It showcases your singing really, really well.... and your voice is framed so very comfortably by the production. I love what you've done and how you've presented it.

To my ears, everything about this sounds like you've put a huge amount of effort into getting the final product 'exactly right'. It was well worth it. Whichever speaker I turned to face, I heard lots of musical skill, creativity and quality.

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey you took me on.

All the best,
Noel

Nice to see you back, Ian. It has been a while...

This is nicely done. Your vocal is cool. Your piano sounds good (what is it?). The little bit of mandolin was a nice touch. Good mix all around.

Enjoyed this.

Noel: Thanks so much. I really appreciate your thoughts and feedback...

Floyd: Yeah, I think the last time I posted a song was probably 2014... Thanks much! The piano is Native Instruments 'The Grandeur'. I usually use 'Alecia's Keys' and this is actually the 1st time I used that particular VI.

It really seems like the overall quality of stuff here in this forum is a lot improved from 4 years ago. I think everything I've listened to so far it quite well mixed...

Peace,

Ian

The mix sounds good. Out front vocal sits in nicely with the backing tracks. The piano sound is excellent in tonality and performance.

Janice was immediately singing along - her 96 year old mother also plays this on the piano smile

Really well done, Ian smile The chord structure and tune is a great write. It has a great groove, and the arrangement shows a good understanding of songwriting. Plus your vocal performance is unreal here, it really showcases your talents.

Thanks for sharing!

Scott and Deryk - Thanks so much for the kudos. This tune is a cover of a hymn that was written in 1858! You both seemed to compliment me on my songwriting. That makes me feel really great because my intention was to make the tune sound contemporary and I may have succeeded. Both your comments made me really smile!

Herb - Thanks for checking out the tune. Much appreciated.

Greg - I don't usually sing this raspy, but for some reason I was feeling it and just went with it. Thanks much for the kind comment.

Janice and Bud - Thanks really cool about Janice's mom. Thanks so much for checking out the tune. I was also pretty pleased w/ how the piano turned out.

Peace,

Ian
