Those of you who do FAWM know that we write them pretty fast (good and bad songs) to complete 14 songs in February. Hoped to get the music to some of these, however if anyone else likes the lyrics, have at it. Just give me credit for the lyrics. You are welcome to edit the lyrics and arrangement as necessary to fit your music.

Prompt: FAWM18 Write a Song without a Chorus

Title Mindin’ Her Time DJE 2/2/18

Verse 1
Not gonna’ sign on that dotted line
Marrying would be a crime
Booking flights to see the world
A wanderlust kind of girl
Mindin’ Her Time

Verse 2
She’s got lots of social fans
Doesn’t need a man
Writin’ her travelin’ blog
Deserts to the London fog
Mindin’ Her Time

Bridge
Her girlfriends grew up too fast
She wants freedom to last

Verse 3
Someday she’ll find a special one
Today she’s nobody’s woman
Reads all the budget advertisers
She gets from trip advisors
Mindin’ Her Time
Mindin’ Her Time

Song Lyrics #2 FAWM

Title Quit Livin’ on that Black Cloud
DJE 2/3/18
Verse 1
I’ve heard all your reasons
Your dreams didn’t come easy
You’re havin’ a melt down
The muse is out of town
So pack up and move out
Quit livin’ on that black cloud

Verse 2
Lines and frowns on your face
You need some savin’ grace
You’re hurtin’ what you love
Life doesn’t wear kid gloves
Shout your blues out loud
Quit livin’ on that black cloud

Bridge
Courage comes to announce
What you do is what counts

Verse 3
What matters in the end
Kind words of a friend
Change the things you can
Give the rest to THE MAN
Wrap yourself in his shroud
Quit livin’ on that black cloud
Quit livin' on that black cloud

This is my second FAWM. I also did a 30 Songs in 30 Days where they would send you a picture in an email everyday with some information about the picture and you would have to come up with a song. It was really fun and taught me I could write about almost anything and write a song every day. Not really getting to put the music to them, but in a couple months hope to have more time. I also did the 50/90 this summer but only got about 30 songs. I have written total over 250 songs in about five years. If anyone wants to put any of these to music that would be great. Thanks for your comment.

Every way I look at the above, it's amazing what you've accomplished in such a short space of time. I'm looking forward to hearing what you do with your lyrics and BIAB when you get a bit of time.

Song #3

Title Down in Little Big Town DJE 2/4/18
Verse 1
She came from a small WV town
Bright eyes and a style that smiled
The age when you take on the world
She’s ready for the miracle mile

Chorus
She’s down in Little Big Town
Hanging out on Music Row
Sleepin’ on sofa’s, makin’ the rounds
Meetin’ all the big cats to know
And she knows how to roll
Lookin’ for nuggets of gold
Down in Little Big Town

Verse 2
Blue Bird nights playin’ her songs
Wants to light up the marquee
But fate can be a dead ringer
Getting’ a break in the industry

Chorus

Bridge
In time, she’s hoping to find
A man with a like mind
Who’ll put the gold on her finger

Chorus

Nice lyrics! I've never done FAWM but have a several friends who do. I just don't have the time. But I sure do admire the folks who can!

Of the two lyrics, I'm particularly fond of the second one - "Quit living On That Black Cloud". if i can find the time between my wife's doctors' visits and all the domestic chores, I'll see what I can do with it.

Good luck with the challenge and keep writing!

Alan

Al-David, thanks for your complements. So sorry your wife is not well, but send her prayers. That would be awesome if you could do the music. It's so nice to hear other's creativity.

Song Lyrics #4 FAWM

Title What Happened to Good Vibrations? DJE 2/5/18
Verse 1
If you saw me when I was eighteen
Beaded sandals, bell bottomed jeans
Thought I could change the world
Peace signs and a free lovin’ girl
We marched to a different drum
Lived in a commune on a farm
Our kids were safe au natural
We had those good vibrations?

Bridge
Now air waves float bad news
Hate camps of opposing views
Identity politics is a closed loop
What you think’s fed by a group
Sense and logic’s gone extinct
Freedom’s drained down the sink

Verse 2
My long hair is gray and I’m 68
I still smoke a joint and contemplate
Why the world changed and went to hell
Young folks don’t listen to stories we tell
Was our visionary movement an anomaly
Just a Woodstock generation in history
Did we open minds and advance spiritually
What happened to good vibrations?

Nice work. As I always say I struggle to write one lyric a month.

Kudos on the challenge and the quality!

Thanks Bud & Janice. Trying to keep by lyric chops honed. You both always come up with a nice song even if it's once a month. I usually like to put more time and effort into a song, but at this time I'm just writing lyrics and will get to better songs later.

Song #5 FAWM

Title Mama’s Always Here DJE 2/7/18
Verse 1
Walking this dark road
A traveler a lone
Never fit into this world
No rest for my bones
Someday I’ll be happy
Where the angels play
I’ll finally be home
One bright sunny day

Chorus
She rocks me in her arms
Her comfort's sublime
Gives me hope for tomorrow
No better friend can I find
As I pour out my sorrows
She wipes away my fears
Says come to Mama
Mama’s always here

Verse 2
My spirit is willing
But my resolve fails often
I crawl back on the wagon
Seems to be hauling my coffin
I’m holding on to hope
Mama’s tied a rope on me
Someday I’ll overcome
And fly the flag of victory

Chorus

Chorus

Song #6 FAWM

Title Grandma’s Place DJE 2/4/18
Verse 1
The March wind rips down the hill
At her place it’s warm and cozy still
Sycamore trees with wooden flowers
Big trellis’ covered with grapevine boughs
I’ld hear her singing baking bread
A wood fired cookstove was all she had
She’ld let me grind the chicken feed
Put out the hay in the evenings

Chorus
It’s been sixty years and it’s hard to find
Where the house used to be and the barn
The land was sold, it’s a subdivision now
Bittersweet memories follow me around
Shower me with the love I found
At Grandma’s Place

Verse 2
After supper she’ld say that’s enough
She’ld play her banjo on the porch
Whippowills and insects sang in the night
Rarely heard a car or saw headlights
I was five, evenings I could walk home
I lived next door on an old dirt road
She was my hero, my second mom
A country woman tough and strong

Chorus

Song #7 FAWM Halfway through. Stay away from this woman.

Title pyRomancer Amber DJE 2/08/18
Verse 1
She’s aglow with sooty lashes
Does a strip show in naughty fashion
They say she’s a hot mama
If you can tolerate the drama
PyRomancer Amber

Verse 2
She’s a hot July Roman Candle
More than most guys wanna’ handle
Has no qualms about burnin’ bridges
You’ll regret if you think she’s kiddin’
PyRomancer Amber

Bidge
If she’s headed your way
Might wanna’ back away slow
Run like hell cause you know

Verse 3
She’s a master at stoking desire
She’s sexy, beautiful and on fire
Collects trophies on her mantel
Preys on innocent infantiles
PyRomancer Amber

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
