Why not a separate program designed around just the features needed for Live Performance of the files?

Lean and mean, it wouldn't need to address all the extraneous Recording features and be dedicated to the required task.

I should think that this would be your ultimate answer. It also seems to me that pgmusic development already has all the core engines for the task, but its never an easy job to roll out a new one. With enough interest to justify it, they just might consider that, though. A program designed around intelligently handling the files you've made with other pgmusic products in performance with all the bells and whistles you want. And only those bells and whistles.

I'd even be willing to bet that a websearch just might turn up some things already out there, but I'm not a betting man.
