Wow, I just discovered an awesome feature in BIAB--vocal transcription!

So, I can take a vocal track I have recorded, call it "SongVox" (or something), make a copy of the MGU file, remame it SongVox, open it up, and go into edit audio and click transcribe. Whoaaaaaah!!!! A transcription of the vocal line as midi on the melody track!!!!

Not perfect but pretty dang close. I can now go into Finale or Guitar Pro and tweak it, but it saves HOURS of work and answers two important questions:

1.) What the heck was I doing?

2.) What was the phrasing on that?

I just transcribed something and am running it as a cello next to the vocal and the phrasing is almost perfect, and wicked tricky. It would have taken me a day to figure out all my rests, phrasings and dotted eights. Now I have it on the 1 yard line.

What makes this mind boggling aside from other programs that do similar things is that I can get the vocal transcription IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LEAD SHEET. Whoah.

THAT MEANS...I can open a simple midi syle like Melisa styl., then export as XML and I have sheet music.

OMG BIAB. I love you more and more every day!!!

P.S. Those who have known this trick forever please don't laugh at me or you will really hurt my feelings.

smile

P.S., That cello file I just mentioned, I didn't just use it as the vocal line for transcription, I put it in the song in some parts as a cello, doubling the vocal.

Wicked.

I love you Band in a Box.
