Hello again! It's been a while. My wife and I are finally home from our travels, for the year. I've several new songs to post but I don't plan to post them all at once. This not a new song, but the recording is new. Later on in his career, Merle Haggard turned his songwriting skills inward on himself and several of those songs became personal favorites of mine. I was completely blown away the first time I heard "Listening to the Wind" it still is may favorite Hag song. I would never attempt to copy one of Hags songs, I admire his work too much for that, but I always wanted to attempt the feel that this particular song had. It is a departure from traditional gospel styling but, that's one of the beautiful things about being a songwriter. You get to do it your way. I hope you like it.

I've heard of a city
Somewhere out there beyond the sky
Where tears will never dim the eye
and heartaches never come
time won't matter anymore
over on that golden shore
and joy will reign forever more
Someday I'm going home

chorus

Someday I'm going
to that city bright and fair
I'll walk the streets of gold up there
never more to roam
God's children will be waiting
as they gather round that throne
I'll finally meet Jesus There
Someday I'm going home

They say home is where the heart is
here upon this earthly plain
and I'll say that in my spirit
to me it's much the same
for my heart is overflowing
with a land of peace and love
someday I'll flee this earthly bondage
for my eternal home above

repeat chorus
