Well, it DOES sound smoother, depending, of course on the type of music and instruments being recorded.

My personal description of the difference is to compare the 192 digital as being able to bring much the same thing that the wideband tape machines brought to the fray, those few reel to reels that could go out to around the 30Khz mark or so. Something "airy" about that sound. If we are talking strings, or orchestra, that sort of thing.

And the 192 does translate well down to the 16/44.1 needed to burn today's CDs, too. Using the right algo and dither combinations.

There IS a difference, but it is not to be used for every situation, certainly.

Least of all multitracking a handful of guitars with bass and drums or the like.
