If you're referring to the chord sheet, then it's possible to change the color of all chord cells, but not a specific selection. Right-click, select Display Options, then Select from the drop-down the item that you wish to change the color of. You can change the color of Part Markers (Sub-Styles), and you can add gradients for effect. That might do what you require.

I had a look in the manual for 2014 and the above is correct.
The present version of BIAB allows for more control of colour but is doesn't allow for chordsheet cells to be filled with different colours in specified ranges (like an Excel spreadsheet).
Bar-based section letters in version 2018 would be an excellent way of identifying sections but, again, these are not available in 2014.
2014 does have Section Text which could be used to show sections. This text appears on the leadsheet and in notation view but it doesn't appear on the chordsheet (if I recall correctly).
Seems color themes were available quite a number of versions before; however, it was not as easily accessible as it is now. But you were able to save your color changes as a theme. I remember Allanah's theme and I remember creating my own that I used for awhile. I just can't remember which version the feature showed up in.

If you can’t find it, John, then we’re all hopelessly sunk. The new (current) GUI came in 2017 and I’m reasonably sure we had the color themes in 2014.

One 'solution' maybe to use coloured part markers for different parts, even if the instrumentation is the same. Again I don't know if it was there in 2014.
BIAB for Windows Version 2019 (643) Windows 10 (1909)
Since upgrading to version 2018 isn’t going to have this feature either, I suggest that this should go in the BIAB Wishlist Forum. We can discuss the merits there.
By the way, BIAB 2017 did greatly improve the options for displaying the chords. Before any changes are requested, it would be useful to see the program as it is now.

I just thought it be would be great if you were able to highlight in different colours (as in a spreadsheet) the verse and the chorus and the bridge then a lead break in different colours so you could identify where you are in your work. It would be easy to find the verses to tidy up and make changes rather than getting frustrated with a page full of chords that look all the same.
+1
It's already been in the wishlist years ago, as said earlier with many +1. There needs to be a more effective way of things getting implemented rather than it being like a lucky dip, the user's being used and things just get cherry picked. I see this so many times over the years where so many users requesting a feature but nothing ever happens. There needs to be more respect given from the developers to the users advice, otherwise what is the point of spending all this time with the products if the advice is not respected and heeded.
Please Daddy, please Daddy can we have this or that ?? "If you behave yourself and be good you might get a big surprise". That's the level it's seems to be on. Can't it be on a more grown up level where there is communication, feedback and engagement from the developers, does it have to be the "Manhattan Project" ?

I'm not sure how it happened in the "quote" in Pipeline's post, but I did not give the original request a +1 in this thread.
I did make a few positive comments in the other thread a few years ago, if anyone wants to quote me fully in context. One of the things I said in that other thread is to not look for the color scheme Pipeline just posted, as you cannot yet do it in BIAB.
If this request is again discussed in the Wishlist, I could be convinced to support it, or some other solution. The situation has changed a little since 2016 and deserves a fresh look.

Yes, Matt's +1 was for a similar request in a different thread on the Wishlist forum. But isn't Pipeline's first point valid - that Matt and others did agree that this would be a good feature?
But, respectfully, Pipeline's second point about developers ignoring the desires of users is debatable, to say the least. There have been many features and capabilities added over the years because they were requested. I suspect that the requests that have not been implemented required more time and/or expense than they could justify, perhaps rewriting code and becoming a major project that would be hard to balance with the number of people asking for them. I think they have done a marvelous job myself. Is the program perfect? No, but it gets better every year at a very affordable price.
Jim Psalm 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.
That was just one of the +1 I quoted as it was suggested that we go to the wishlist and wish for this again "I suggest that this should go in the BIAB Wishlist Forum.", but it has already been wished for , that's all.
The point I'm trying to make is that we give our time here helping PG customers and the same customer "asks" come up again year after year, when these have been +1 by many of us users in the wishlist in many cases years back to no avail. It just tends to create frustration and "why do I bother at all ?".
Oh yes, I get the point. Interestingly we had a recent situation where a PG staffer said, Great idea, I’ll pass it to the developers. It was a topic that had been around the block a few times but it was new to him. You never know when a good idea will get traction. I don’t give up; I’ve been at this since 1993.
