Nope I used the correct "here" in the title, because I am here to learn today from this. I'm enlisting your help please.

I've heard A LOT this week about my attitude on forums. Personally, I don't get it...as in, seriously, don't understand it. I've been told I'm a troll, it's been said I have posted any songs, I've had people wonder if I have any musical ability, I had people say I think I'm God-like and I have no right to say anything...just...yikes.

So I looked at the comments I made in two posts today.

Samuel has a thread about writing/producing music that sounds like something on the charts. Then he was kind enough to provide the a chart for reference. Cool guy. Anyway, Herb had made a statement that he didn't want to do rap and he didn't see any country. I know Herb well enough, as I think we all do, to know Herb would know a country song if he saw it. I was not questioning Herb AT ALL. I would bet he knows that too. I didn't want people thinking there wasn't any on the charts provided. Here was my comment...

Quote:

These are the comments that get me labeled a troll...

Country songs on that chart :

29-Heaven/Kane Brown
38-You Make It Easy/Jason Aldean
62-Most People Are Good/Luke Bryan
63-Tequila/Dan + Shay
67-Singles You Up/Jordan Davis
68-One Number Away/Luke Combs
72-Babe/Sugland Featuring Taylor Swift
80-I Lived It/Blake Shelton
82-Get Along/Kenny Chesney
84-UpDown/Morgan Wallen Featuring Florida Georgia Line
85-The Long Way/Brett Eldredge
86-For The First Time/Darius Rucker
88-Woman,Amen/Dierks Bentley
95-Everything's Gonna Be Alright/David Lee Murphy & Kenny Chesney
96-Cry Pretty/Carrie Underwood

But then again, what would I know.

Herb, to be clear this has nothing to do with you. I know damn well you would know those are country songs.

Is what rubs people the wrong way the "These are the comments that get me labeled a troll...?" or "But then again, what would I know?" I'm thinking so; but don't know. They do seem to have a bit of sting to them.

Maybe just "I just took a quick look and saw these. Hope it helps." Better approach? I'm hoping so; but all ears on suggestions. OR is it still condescending with "Hope it helps" as in I think I'm God for knowing this? lol, that would be sad, but hey, I'm curious how people take what I say.

From a different post :

Quote:
I fear people listen to a few and give up listening. I think that may be part of the problem with people tuning out because of what they don't like. They miss out on something new they would.

Too judge-y? Offensive? To me, it was just my opinion of a fear I have. I love music and love for others to experience it. If I can help them to experience more, I'm for that. If it becomes and argument, not so much.

Quote:
And that's where limitation starts, and learning ends, closing your mind.

Are these the "thinking I'm God" statements people find condescending? Again, it's just my opinion; and I'm not sure why it rubs people so wrong. I feel I should be allowed to have an opinion, which I get I do. NO ONE has asked me to leave the forum; as much as some seem to hate what I stand for. So, there's that. smile

Listen, I'm open to ideas on how I can approach things differently. I feel I get a disproportionate amount of push back on my ideas over others because of misunderstanding of my intent. I do see people present there ideas MUCH better than I do. Same point, different reaction from the crew. I'm not a people pleaser; but I'm not an arse (contrary to popular belief here) either so I have been watching. Then I thought, "hell, just ask."

The one thing I do understand is, it's not what you say, it's what others hear. I am trying to learn how to do that better. Give me time; and help me out. You don't owe it to me, but I'm asking smile

I'll end with, to anyone I offended. Sorry. I do have friends on here that I think would vouch I'm actually not a guy intent on disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. I'm not going to ask them to though...so to my friends, don't worry. lol

-HereToStay

**Almost forgot, I started a new thread so as hopefully not to derail the other threads that I made the comments in. Hopefully that is will be the case. L.e.a.r.n.i.n.g. smile

HTL,

I really really like you as a person and I plan to call you to go over this brother to brother on the phone when I get out of the desert.

There is YOU and then there is the mysterious, cloaked, faceless person who has not really posted any tunes to speak of though I know you could but has hundreds of ideas on how BIAB can do a better job and songwriters too, with very few specifics and no musical contributions as examples.

Again, I like YOU but I find your HTL persona annoying as hell sometimes, though I am sure I am annoying too.

Let's hash it out on the phone. You're a good dude. In the meantime, more music and less talk please. But that is just me.

Why are you replying? You are supposed to be on vacation! lol Wait...out of the desert? Dude, do you need help? smile

I always thought you were referring to someone else with that. lol Opps. I think there is a difference between wanting to keep some things private to the internet and not being willing to share at all. I'm I PM for anyone with questions. I, as some others on the forum, just don't want to have everything out there. My wife and I were catfished once. It was a learning experience.

Is it the default Facebook Avatar?

I haven't posted a lot but have posted two songs. Both of which you seem to enjoy. Maybe it was just the standard "great job buddy" or maybe you did like them. Neither were up to my standards, but I posted them anyway for fun. In both cases I felt the need to post. Another will be the #Hot100.

Here are the songs so you will maybe remember before our convo. Looking forward to it btw!

Not mixed or mastered really.
Paradox Of You Version IX

Started in BIAB when I was new to it.
50 Years

Final Version was not from BIAB because I was on a time crunch. lol
50 Years Final

Pretty different songs. Both fun for different reasons. But it's not like I have done ANYTHING to at least judge me by.

Lol. I've understood your points. I'm not sure you've understood mine. The convo may clear some of that up. I'm both less God and Satan than my persona may come across as.

Working on that. Unfortunately I can't post the music I do. It's my full time job; so I do A LOT of it..however, once complete, they are no longer my material.

Thanks for the response. It's really appreciated.

I have absolutely no problem with your posts, HearToLearn. I find them stimulating and informative. There is still a fair amount of status quo maintenance around here and I find it quite refreshing to have someone like you who is willing to stir things up a bit. smile

And I have no problem with you being mysterious or with you not posting songs. You have your reasons and have stated them here many times. It is misguided to claim that because you have not posted your music you are unqualified to participate in conversations here. As far as I know there are no rules that one must post music or that it must be of a certain quality level before conversing in the forum!

I believe conversation and debate is a healthy part of a community like this. If everyone agrees with each other and constantly pats themselves, each other and PGM on the back it gets boring and not so useful. This whole "Can BIAB make modern music?" question/debate is a great example! The challenge Sammy started might get really interesting and help all of us improve. And in doing so we are helping PGM too. So it is a win-win-win!

HTL, I don’t see an issue with your posts. I often have to pull myself up when posting because I might write something in jest but then others don’t see it that way. In my case being an Aussie that a lot of people misinterpret what I might say. I also find some people take every thing literally or seriously.

Incidentally I have not posted any songs that I have generated using BIAB. I don’t use it for writing songs. I use it because I want to have really nice backing tracks. I might never post a song. I enjoy the Forum. For the next couple of months I will even spend more time on my iPad and be perfectly upset and chair bound. I am writing this from a hospital bed at 4:30am my time after having total hip replacement yesterday.

HTL keep up the good work

Tony

HTL I have no problems with your posts and I never thought that you were a troll.

IMHO some reasons for people to take what one types differently from what one actually means is because we can not see ones body language and/or we do not know each other personally. We all express ourselves differently. Also some are very defensive when wanting to either change or add too BiaB.

I have had some of my jokes and/or types misunderstood. That is a way of life in the Internet world.

Yes, so if you want to convey accurately, you must post every response as a video clip of you saying what you mean.

Can I just have someone else say what they think I mean? You know, cut out me as the middle man in my thought process. It's efficiency really.

Thanks Mario. I think I may have even been...ok, I'm fairly certain I was one that has maybe even been the person that misunderstood you. I have always liked you and your music. I appreciate your comments on this.

Oh my gosh, hip surgery! I hope all went well and it will be an improvement for you. I've known a few people who have done this and were glad they did. Prayers for a fast recovery!

Your approach is the intelligent one. As you mention about people taking things seriously; I miss the joke thread that we used to have. I feel it lightened things up; even just a little.

As far as never posting, I totally understand that. I think what you are using it for is so cool. I wish I would have had this tool, or known of it, when I was playing in bands, or even just to jam to as a kids learning to play. It's amazing to think what we can do now.

I love the Australians! Such great people. Thank you very much for your reply smile

I couldn't agree more. Sam is a GREAT guy and had a great idea with this. I'm hoping others jump in. I say "warts and all" and work to improve. I really don't care if someone isn't even close to where they want to be; the fact that they are willing to try says everything to me.

So, thank you for the comments. I always appreciate those who take time when they didn't have to.

for a minute there, in that first paragraph, I thought you were describing me.

I don't have any.... uhhhhh...many problems with the folks here or elsewhere on the net. There's always "delete" "block" and "ban" if the problem gets too big..... or irritating.

But in reality, I'm more like a duck when dealing with nonsense. It's essentially water off my back. I don't get upset with people over things..... life's too short for that.

I'm kinda the same way except I didn't even really discover them until the early 70s. But what really strikes me is how well their later music holds up even today as opposed to the early stuff and how dated it sounds.

Same here. I was going to ask if anyone has started a thread about them to that those who know can explain what is all going on in their songs (Hint Noel) but I didn't want to interrupt the OP's thread. No kidding...then I remembered it's mine. So, were good! smile (I'm not kidding on that. My memory seems to be going lately.)

Anyway, I would really like to learn a lot more about how they put things together. I haven't really studied them at length. Just a few surface-y kinds of things. I'm sure you all would be a wealth of knowledge on this!
