Great explanation by dcuny there. One typo: the A is the 13th.

A 13th is the same pitch as a major 6th (just subtract 7 from any upper extension), in a register one octave higher. So a 13th chord has both a major 6th and a minor 7th. Very cool chord to solo over, because there is so much there.

Tip: try a 13sus4 resolving to a 13 chord.
