Hello, forum friends Since I listened to Tano Music's Bossa Nova, I became to want to share my Bossa Nova with you. But it is not so sophisticated bossa nova in comparison with Tano Music. Starting composing, everyone will want to write Bossa Nova once. This song was written when I was very young. I did not know Jobim yet and I believed that Astrud is Bossa Nova. I wrote it inspired by “Manhã De Carnaval” sung by Astrud. After that I forgot about this song. But about 10 years ago I met a wonderful female jazz pianist at our local jazz club where I often go. So, I asked her for a recording session and she accepted it pleasantly. This song is one of the 7 songs we recorded at that time. Sorry, the recording was intact at that time, only 2 mix file was left, so there are some problems with the mix balance. Any comments encouraged. Always welcome. Best regards. Shigeki Adachi Title: half moon Vocal: Yoko K. (when she was young), my friend Piano: Miya Nakajima, our local female jazz pianist Link: https://soundcloud.com/animarorecords/half-moonStyle is BOSANUVO.STY (MIDI) MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic Bass (33), Slow String (50), MIDI Drums : Brush and GM Percussions All are played with EastWest Quantum Leap Goliath (Kontakt Version) Nylon String Guitar (25), replaced by live performance of Yamaha teacher Summary of lyrics: I see a blue moon in the window You sleeping profile is disappearing With faint shadow In the night sky Even in our deep kisses Nothing was left but scent Even sure things Will melt in this darkness You just get to sleep While healing the pain wound Something is left in my mind But it will fall deeply like droplets Only on my fingers I surely feel you I want to be wrapped Left alone forever in the night Overflowing sadness will Just carry away my heart We will be left never united in a body Like the vanishing foam on the sea Even though we are together Our hearts are like a half moon Without becoming a full moon We don’t know what to do with our hearts Waiting for the moon to fade away The reality now begins again While grinding down the sorrow That awakens pale

Shigeki,
The piano and vocals are very good and the whole sounds pretty sophisticated to me... but then I`ve yet to write my bossa nova song! Very enjoyable music; well worth saving your original recordings.

Hello, Robert
Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment. I am always very encouraged by your nice words. I am really glad you like this tune, the piano and the vocal. I had recorded many songs by Yamaha digital recorder when there was no DAW. The original files are owned by one of my friends. So, someday I'd like to transfer all of the files to my DAW and remake them again.
Best regards.

Shigeki...wow! So beautiful, and beautifully done..Every aspect perfectly executed. Completely captures the spirit of bossa. You are so lucky to have had live professionals to record this track! The vocal is just right, the spirit of the lyric is so faithful to the genre, the chord changes (modifying on the 2nd 4 beats, such as moving m7 to m6), the guitar playing itself, the tone and nature of the piano solo...I can speak for this genre, but I'm sure it is true for many other styles--when you so totally capture the spirit, and all the elements are in balance, your song moves into another higher dimension of professional excellence. Thanks for going into the past to share this..and I hope I will hear more like it!

Shigeki,
We do not pretend to be knowledgeable about Bossa. But we listen to a LOT of different genres including some jazz so we like to think that we can recognize excellence when we hear it. Everything sounds sophisticated and like all the participants are in their element. The arrangement, vocal and piano are outstanding.
Very nice!

PS You did a great job working with those older tracks.

I have no idea what is good bossa nova, but this song is excellent example of it to me. Vocals, piano and guitar form strong band and BIAB instruments support it seamlessly. Great melancholy lyrics also ("We don’t know what to do with our hearts" line summarizes it nicely).

Hello, Tom
Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment. I am really glad you like this tune. I am very happy to hear nice words from you who sincerely love Bossa Nova and understand its spirits deeply. As you said, I was very lucky that I could record this track with fantasy players.
There are many excellent guitarists also in my district. However, most of them are good at rock, jazz and blues, but Bossa Nova. So are Yamaha teachers. But that is not their fault. Because there is little demand for bossa nova from their students. The guitarist who played this track is an exception.
And our local jazz club pianists also play excellent jazz improvisations, but they could not have good performances when they play bossa nova. The pianist who played this track is also an exception. As soon as I heard her performance, I felt bossa nova's spirits clearly.
It was because I met these two players that the idea to record my old song came up to my mind. I would also like to write bossa nova in the near future again.
Best regards.

Hello, Janice & Bud
Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment. I am always very encouraged by your nice words. This song was written when I was absorbed in Bossa Nova, which is probably the best of my all works in this genre. So, I am really glad you like this tune, the piano and the vocal.
Best regards.
