Hi

Welcome to the forums.

One of BIAB's quirks is that the initial style needs to be one based on the highest time signature of the song. So, if your case, if you want a 5/4 bar anywhere in the song, you'd need to load a 5/4 style first off and then set bar 1 to 3 beats.

That said, since you are working with a 5/4 addition, the above is not necessary.

My experience is that 5 beats in a bar are usually articulated as either 3+2 or 2+3.

To accomplish this, you only need to add one extra bar in your song and set it to 2 beats. This means that your single bar of 5/4 is being accomplished by playing a bar of 3/4 and a bar of 2/4 side by side.

If you want a 3+2 articulation, insert the bar after the bar where 5/4 is needed. If you want 2+3 insert the bar before the one where you want 5/4. The waltz style should fit this and accommodate 2 beats.

Also, when you change the bar 2 beats, you will need to change the following bar to 3 beats otherwise the rest of the song will be 2 beats.

Hope this makes sense,
Noel
