After my hard drive crashed, I got a 500GB internal drive and a 1TB external drive (for backup). I have the BIAB on the 500GB drive and I still have over 440GB free. So the questions are:

1.) How big are the 101 new realtracks?
2.) Oops, I would need to get the realtracks from 2009.5 also!! How big are those?
3.) Is there any discount for NOT getting the USB drive and just downloading?

From ease of use, just getting the 160 USB drive and copying everything over to the 500GB drive makes the most sense, but if it saves money, I might consider downloading. Chances are, though for $139, it make sense just to get the USB drive.

Never mind, I just ordered the USB drive version. Really looking forward to it!!!

I'll just copy the contents to my 500GB internal drive, stash the 160GB drive as a backup and give my wife the 80GB uSB drive from 2009 as her on-line backup tool.

Yes, the 160GB hard drive for $139 with pre-installed UltraPlus Pak is a good deal. Esp. when some **blank** 160GB hard drives are selling at Amazon for $104.

I just ordered the 160GB drive with the 2010 Everything Pak. I presume this would be a 5400rpm drive. Would I get better performance in biab if I tranferred everything to a 7200 rpm drive? or is 5400 adequate

Hi,

I have 2009.5 and I'd like to upgrade to 2010. Normally I get electronic downloads because I like to run BIAB/RB from my hard drive. However, my DVD collection of program files is starting to get pretty large. If I order the USB drive version, is it easy enough to install the files I need from that version to my computer's 1TB hard drive?

From what I've read in the forums, this seems to be a straightforward process. It also seems to be the best way to go because I will be able to use the 160 GB drive to backup all my BB, RB and PT folders instead of having a mountain of DVDs. I just thought that I should double-check before ordering.

Regards,
Noel

Noel, I was going to do just that until Vista and the external drive didn't like each other. I ended up having to install it on the Vista Machine to avoid the grief, but I have kept the backups of the folders of songs up to date, for use on my Acer which I use on my accoustic piano.

I ran the install process from the external drive and in an hour or so had all the stuff moved. You have to keep up to date with new releases and the builds change, but no big deal either if you miss 3 or 4 builds and then do it, as most of us know.

Besides, that the COOL factor is having the box with the band in it which you'll see soon enough, they should put a usb port on the box, I may do that with the new one, (ie cut a hole it it), for stange stuff brings joy to guys with grandchildren.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. I run 32 bit Vista (UAC disabled). I wonder if the external USB drive still has problems with Vista? I'd better do some homework. Ultimately, I want to run BIAB on my Vista machine. I was hoping that the USB drive would simply be a way for me to upgrade from 2009.5 to 2010. If Vista makes it too difficult, I can always order electronic delivery. (I was just hoping to avoid adding to my present DVD stack.)

I seem to recall that people have simply copied files from the USB drive onto fixed hard drives and that seems to have worked for some.

Thanks again for your thoughts,
Noel

I did have issues with 64 bit Vista, but they have resolved the problems some months ago. Mostly people like me who moved it a lot, or had left the permissions alone. The thing now is designed to work around that, and those who've made the transition to Windows 7 seem to love it to death. I guess I'd better take a contract to work for a few days after New Year's to justify ordering it.
