I have an older Roland SCB-40 Cube Bass amp.
It has 2 inputs, labelled "High" and "Low".
I've always plugged the Fender PBass into High.
I found the specs for the inputs:
High .... -23dBm/330kΩ
Low .... -13dBm/ 65kΩ
Those numbers are Greek to me (excuse the pun).
What instrument/mic would be appropriate to plug into the Low jack.

The horseshoe symbol is ohms, a measure of electrical resistance called impedance. Look up in the manual for each device whether it should go into a high or low impedance input. If you choose the wrong one, you will know because the sound will be distorted or it will seem to be too soft.

According to the SCB-40's manual, the Low input is for Roland GR Bass Synthesizers or high output guitars.

I was hoping I could plug a low or high impedence mic in that jack.

Bottomline up front (BLUF) : Plug the P Bass into the HIGH

Your Fender PBass should around 10K ohms (unless you’ve added active pickups or done other PUP mods) , as are most passive electric bases and guitars. This is considered “high” output impedance: between 6K to 10+ K ohms for passive PUP configurations as opposed to say stomp box that has around 100 ohms output or “low” impedance output.
You want to plug high impedance outputs into much HIGHER impedance inputs. 10X or more is a good ROT (rule of thumb) and most all guitar and bass amps have at least ONE 100K to 1M ohm “high” impedance inputs – they may also have “low” inputs but you don’t want to use that for guitar or bass.
You are NOT trying to impedance match in these cases (unlike other audio situations) because if you put a 10K ohm Z (Z=impedance) guitar/bass into a 10K ohm input Z it will simply load down the passive pickups and severely impact signal and high freq’s.

As shown in my OP, the input marked "Low" on the amp is shown as ... 65k ohms.
That figure is closer to my bass output than the input marked "High".
Why would I not plug the PBass into the "Low" input?
As you can tell, my lack of understanding on the subject, is underwhelming!

You'll just have to trust us.
But if you want to "trust but verify" then go ahead, you won't hurt anything IN THIS CASE, but I don't suggest this with certain kinds of microphones or other sensitive gear (i.e., don't just willy-nilly plug in and see what happens)
I suspect plugging the bass (or a guitar) into amps low input will simply suck the volume, tone, and life out of your bass

I found this on the 'net"
"The recommended minimum ratio of output to input impedance is 1:10. Passive pickups run around 10k, so a minimum input impedance of 100k is recommended, 1meg is better. With only 40k there will be a lot of signal loss."
So that makes sense now.
The input on my "Low" channel being only 65k would experience some signal loss.
I guess that's what you're trying to tell me.

Plug it into each input one at a time. See which one sounds the best.
For the most part, and with a few exceptions, guitar & bass pickups tend to be high impedance but plugging it into one and then the other to see which one sounds the best, without distorting and still presenting a strong signal would be the best bet.
You will not hurt the gear by doing that.

That's just about what I ended up doing. I did some 'net surfing on the specs for the 2 Shure mics I had. Then I just plugged the PBass into the "High" input, and tried each of the mics into the "Low" input until I found something what worked.
Thanks to all for your input and ideas.
I used the setup at a gig yesterday and it was fine. Another one today, quite a bit bigger venue. I think that little Roland amp will be adequate.
