I carry a guitar pick in my wallet. I think that's a pretty common one! Back when I was first learning how to play guitar, my group of friends and I in middle school all kept guitar picks in our wallets. I honestly don't know why any of us did it, though. Just in case, I suppose?

I used to carry an old tortoise shell pick in my billfold. I would frequent a lot of music stores, antique stores and flea markets always on the eye for a vintage guitar. I felt like I could better evaluate the tone via a the pick I used on my old Martin. I eventually lost it and that weirdness ended.

<click> "Hello?"
"Hi... Mr. Merritt I presume?"
"Uhhhh... yeahhhh. May I ask who this might be?"
"HA! As if you don't know!! This is the tortoise, and I want my freakin' shell back! Leave it by the pond if you know what's good for you!!"
SLAM! (bzzzzzzzzzzzz)
Janice: "Who was that?"

One little thing that keeps it interesting is I am well aware that our vehicles blinkers are at different tempos. Yes!!! When I'm sitting at the light I love to see the difference of mine vs. the car in front of me and watch them go in and out of sync with one another.

That happened 1 time (that you know of) and I already apologized to you and paid the fine.

When buying shoes, how they sound is very important to me.
You win Love it. I have a few quirks regarding my music - I tend to count a lot... but can't top that shoe thang. I had a good laugh over that one, not going to lie.

If I walk up to an instrument I have to tune it.
I cannot bear the thought that something in my house might be out of tune.
I am pretty sure this is not a psychological disorder of any kind however, absolutely positively sure.

we could easily expand this discussion to include weird things that ARTISTIC people do (that other people would never do)
For example, when I watch youtube videos that are not aligned square with the frame, I immediately begin to imagine snapped lines that would be needed as guides to skew the picture back into alignment. Weird, but I do this all the time, and have for years.

I'm all in on that! I tried, and may be doing it wrong, but couldn't figure out how to change the thread name. That doesn't mean we can just "go there" though.

Definitely not! Good maintenance means your instruments are always ready to play whenever you need them, am I right?

If I walk up to an instrument I have to tune it. Good thing you're a guitarist and not a pianist, otherwise, you'll be spending a lot of time "getting in tune".

Ha ha ha!! I swear to God though if I had a baby grand in the house I would have a set of tuning keys and hammer and I would be messing with it all the time. I kid you not. Totally OCD man!! Thank God I have a digital piano!!

I've enjoyed reading some of these I'm sure I have some odd quirks myself, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. Growing up my dad was a professional singer and also a voice impressionist, primarily for local radio commercials. One thing he used to always do that drove me and my mom mad, is we've be watching a movie and he's start trying to impersonate the actors in the movie. In hindsight it is kind of funny - not so funny when you can't pay attention to the movie though because someone is talking. Another one is my dad would always make this weird "bing-bing" sound loudly, which he said had something to do with pitching his voice or something (?) - I can't totally remember. I'm a singer too and certainly never do this. It doesn't matter really, except when he'd do it in a grocery store or something and get odd looks.
Cheers, Deryk

I find myself "directing" the music I listen to on the radio or via internet streaming (as if I, an untrained hack choir director, could somehow conduct an orchestra better than Shostakovich or Toscanini). But it's fun!

I find myself "directing" the music I listen to on the radio or via internet streaming (as if I, an untrained hack choir director, could somehow conduct an orchestra better than Shostakovich or Toscanini). But it's fun! My junior high school band director would practice conducting by putting recordings on and conducting the pre-recorded orchestra. I walked into the band room one day and saw him doing this, his comment was, "Look how well THEY follow!" (with a giant grin on his face). Notes

My youngest brother conducts for a living. He's also a prof at University of Wisconsin.
He started pretending to conduct when he about 3. Dad gave him a little toy baton from the music store. I can picture him in his pull-ups, little cowboy boots and his baton. Nothing else on him. Just walking around wavin' his arms about.
I should post that picture for him, it's around here somewhere.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

LOL Mario, things have not changed very much as it is very common still in 2018 for cats to be playing for 20 - 35 bucks an hour.
Hugs to your bride!
PS: Come on down for a visit.
