Oh yes, I survey every room I enter to assess the acoustics. I mean every room, but I see nothing strange with that. lol

Those cats are lucky! Up here cats only get around $25-$40 per night; I was making that back in 1967. There are a few exceptions but not many. The problem very few places to play thus they control the bucks.

The next time we go to the panhandle to see Linda's sister we will try to meet up. I want to get to see Don also but money right now is a little thin.

Hugs to your Linda and family.

Good thing you're a guitarist and not a pianist, otherwise, you'll be spending a lot of time "getting in tune".

Some might find it weird that for decades I carried my tuning hammers and kit to gigs, to fix bad strings on the piano. Self defense, really.

I remember a story about Count Basie.

He and his orchestra pulled into town the day of the concert. When he got there the manager apologized that the pianist last night broke the piano so a few of the keys don't work. I called the piano shop but they can't fix this one or bring a new one until Monday.

Mr. Basie replied, "Then I just won't play those notes."

That's a lesson in attitude.

Weird habit (I suppose) that I have.

If I'm in a club I never leave in the middle of a song. I guess that's just normal and respectful, but if I'm in my car and the radio is playing, I won't leave the car until the song is over.

I do the same, just always thought it rude to leave until the tune was finished.

What a fantastic thread! Its so interesting to see all of these habits.

Mine is I have to take a shower before I write music. Usually most of my ideas come to me there and if they don't I still feel refreshed after having one.

Its the little things! grin

at the market I like to rattle a bag of bean coffee and pretend its a shaker. Then I imagine Matt Finley playing brazilian music to the beat...

I only buy wind chimes that are tuned to the key of Em

when I see birds clustered on the power lines, I take a picture then try to sight read their position on the wires.

I only answer the phone if the caller can identify the tone of the beep

I bought a tea kettle, but had to take it back because when the water boiled, it whistled in a key that made me sad.

In order to be in my garden, the hummingbirds have to use pitch correction. I can't abide an out-of-tune hummingbird.

In the supermarket all the carts have bad wheels, which create little "thump" patterns when shoppers push them around. I try to push my cart faster or slower to generate a percussion groove... especially in the coffee aisle where people are shaking the bags of bean coffee...

C’mon up again anytime, Pat. I’ll play whatever you want.

Speaking of wind chimes, I live near Woodstock, NY which most of you may recognize as the home of lots of musicians, but one of them founded Woodstock Chimes which is known worldwide. I have bought several. Before I knew about these, I made a few of my own. The largest one I tuned to play a minor 9th chord. Very inspiring. A smaller one plays a mMaj7 chord, much used in Brazilian music.

what a totally cool thing to do! One more reason to respect the man, the musician, and the legend known as Matt Finley!

You may laugh, but I've actually done that.

But I don't shake the coffee (yet!) laugh

So do some famous people. The Bee Gees developed the song beat and tempo of "Jive Talkin' " from the sound their car wheels made driving over a bridge in Miami every day as they went to the recording studio.

Not a habit, but one band I played in that had lots of brass instruments had a gig a couple hours away. The highway we were driving on was under construction with a lane shift for miles that caused us to have to drive on the rumble strips. Our euphonium player busted out his instrument and we had fun guessing what notes different speeds would generate on the rumble strips. Fun for maybe 15 minutes.
