Although BIAB 2018 boasts compatibility with ABC, there are complaints that one can’t just download any .abc file from the internet and have it open in BIAB 2018 without crashing. Following the links at ABC Notation, it’s easy to see that there are hundreds of apps from as many freeware and shareware hobbyists and that rigid Standards for ABC don’t really exist. OK... so how useful is this new feature? We need to know which App or Apps are compatible with PG Music’s implemtation of ABC notation. Not every one, of course, but a short list of the free ones would be nice. That and decent instructions on how to use those files in BIAB will be most welcome to those ABC Notation enthusiasts, whoever they are.

Since the ABC notation standard is very broad and subject to interpretation BiaB users that also use ABC would benefit if a list of compatible programs was available.

I'd like to see some more discussion (and tips) about using ABC files with BIAB. Here are a few things I've noticed:
1. BIAB generally ignores any repeats and 1st and 2nd endings in ABC files.
2. BUT, a missing or extraneous repeat (or extra bar line,etc.) can cause problems during import.
3. ABC files seem to import better without any formatting commands before the X: line, at least on my computer.
4. Key signatures import correctly, but if an accidental occurs during the tune, BIAB may have a difficult time interpreting the same note the next time it appears. BIAB seems to ignore the rule that an accidental remains in effect until the end of the measure.
I'm using EasyABC as my primary program for ABC files.
