Some of you may recall that on every Thursday in 2016, I posted an original song arranged with BIAB (with one exception.) The 52 Tracks Project, https://52tracksblog.com/ was challenging but the comments from musicians on this forum helped keep me going.

I just released a CD with 15 songs from the project. My wife selected the songs and advised me on which songs I should re-record vocals and/or rearrange.

I also remixed most of the songs, using comments from posters on this forum as a start. I want to single out Floyd Jane for his very helpful comments on mixes, drum sounds, and arrangements.

If you would like to hear A Quaker's Cousin, here is the Bandcamp link.

Thanks again for your support.

Hey Fgrittner,

Thanks for sharing, as I was not with the company in 2016, this is a great first time opportunity to hear these tracks. Thank you for sharing, I am going over them now and I am especially digging 'Topsoil Blues', and 'Cottonwood Dreams'.

Maybe 2019 you might want to consider starting the challenge again smile

Fred, just listened to "Monterey Sun"...loved how you used the triplet motif of "monterey" as the hook. Also was very impressed with your lyrical rhymes--all solid, very few false ones in there, and the 'sketchy' story was moved along nicely throughout the lyric.

The style/chart was kept simple, and I think that's a very good thing when you want your listener to pay attention to/enjoy the lyrics, so I give you a thumbs-up on that aspect!

Real nice vocal quality/mix, and the solo's were appropriate and interesting.

I'll probably check in to listen to more, based on this first blush!

Great work!

Fred,

I listened to the entire record yesterday while driving around town... I was surprised to notice how many of the songs I remembered from your postings (a good sign there).

The songs hold together as a cohesive record nicely - no wild straying into unexpected instruments or genres that don't "fit". Good mixes throughout. Love the CD Title!! HA!

Your vocals are "comfortable and clear". Easy to listen to... And there are terrific lyrics/lines/phrases all over the place - you have a good "way with words".

An enjoyable listen start to finish.

Thanks!

fj

You are a lyricist, sir. I've just poked around so far. West of Baghdad stands out at the moment, and I love that Dire Strait-ish feel. Will be listening again after the weekend.

Nice.... listening now to the album as I work on some other stuff around here.

Monterrey Sun moves along nicely. Nice slide.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, lyrics are very important to me.

I write in a lot of genres because I love the diversity of American music.

Thanks,

Fred

I listened to Monterey Sun and if that is any hint of how the rest of the CD sounds, it is certain to be a good one. Great writing, playing, arranging and mixing. It all sounded good to my ears.

Nice. We remember a lot of them.

The mix levels are very balanced and there is an effective cohesiveness to all the cuts we've listened to so far.

Well done!
