Ok, Dave, just for grins, I put a version out there without the lead guitar.

If anybody is so inspired, let's see what they've got. Whoever.

I made it downloadable.

I'm really crunched for time these days, but I might take a swing at it anyway. crazy

I know the BiaB will transpose a song (including the audio track) if you want. If you really like the 90bpm version, you could see if BiaB will timeshift it as well. If not, send me a PM, and I can speed it up in Reaper to 95bpm and see if you like the results.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I have Reaper … it's actually what I use to mix. Can you speed it up and keep it from shifting the key up? I'll have to look. Only going up 5bpm ...

The simplest thing to do would be change the playback rate. On the Tranport control (usually just under the tracks and just over the mixer), double-click after Rate: and enter the new rate of 1.055555555555556 (95bpm/90bpm). The Playback Rate slider will light green to indicate that the value was changed.

Hit Play at this point, and you can hear what it'll sound like.

Be aware that the quality of the pitch shifting/time shifting is controlled by the Project Settings (found in File|Project Settings... or Alt+Enter). You'll probably want to select a higher Render resample mode, and the Default pitch shift mode: should be elastique Pro (for polyphonic material).

You can override which resampling algorithm is used at the track level by going to a track's Item Properties (F2) and adjust each track's Take pitch shift/time stretch mode. If you're doing that, select elastique Soloist for single-note instruments, choosing either Voice or Monophonic, depending on the material, and elastique Pro for polyphonic tracks.

If you want to rebuild the song from scratch, you can just change the Project Settings to use Default pitch shift mode of elastique Soloist with the Pitch shift parameter of Speech, solo the vocal tracks one by one, and render them out as stems for a new project.

Did that make sense?

Nice arrangement and vocals strong, although a bit busy on the track side of things.

Thinned out it would be more interesting, and dynamic.

Yup, thanks, got it on the speeding up bit. Played with it a bit the other night and noticed a few pitfalls... looks like it would be best if I record and mix at this speed (if I don't want to re-work everything) … render it to wav, and mess with the speed in a different project on that wav file, so I have the original master to go back to. I'd changed the speed, and then tried overdubbing some vocal bits and it got pretty weird on me.

Fortunately, I was working on a copy.

Phil,

Like all your other songs that I've heard, this is a wonderful listen. You've really settled-in to working with BIAB and Reaper and getting the most out of your musical creations. I found everything about this song very engaging from beginning to end.

All the best,
Noel
