Here's what happened. I'm working on a tune called Valdez In The Country by Cold Blood. It's a 70's disco/funk type thing. I auditioned several RT styles and messed with changing a few of the RT tracks. Great, SOP. The last guitar RT I used was a funky wahwah track. I Didn't like it so I went to generate a different one but while it looked like it was generating the new track and the mixer displayed the name of the new track, it still played the last track I generated.

I'm thinking what? I change RT's in a style all the time so nerd that I am I spent most of last evening trying to figure this out. First, the obvious. The track was not frozen. I won't describe all the things I did, bottom line I could not get a different guitar track to play after generating all kinds of other tracks. Somehow that last wahwah track locked the system to that guitar track only. I know I could have simply moved the song to RB but I was determined to get past this in Biab.

Finally, what worked? Changing to an all midi style. That cleared whatever was going on. I changed the midi guitar track to the RT track I wanted with no issues! AND the funk midi styles are much better suited for this song than any of the RT styles I tried. Win, win but wow.

I don't know if this was a one off random occurrence or something that can be replicated or what but there it is.

Bob

It just did it again so now I have a bug report.

Still experimenting with guitar RT tracks. The problem track is Greg Moore RT #2621. As soon as I generated it it locked the guitar track. I cannot generate another guitar track. Since I'm using a midi style now I went into Track Actions and set Default Track. Now the mixer shows a midi Clav and that's what plays but as far as RT's are concerned it's like a zombie, once you've generated it you can't kill it. After reverting to the midi Clav I tried to generate a different guitar RT and no go. It's #2621 or nothing.

I changed to a different midi style again and that cleared it.

I could see myself doing that and it would be frustrating. I wonder if ‘locking up’ a track is intentional for some reason? Hope not.

Bob,

Was there are MIDI Supertrack on the BIAB track that you used for the RT prior to loading and generating the RT?

I've found that sometimes loading a RT over a MST doesn't always go according to plan.

Regards,
Noel

Nope but the good news is I found an even better midi style for this. In fact it sounds so good just with the Forte Dxi I'm going to post it on YouTube. There are two other backing tracks for this tune and to me this one is the best.

Have you tested that track yet?

Man, is my house haunted with gremlins or what?

I moved the project to RB and I've been trying out different soloists and they all suck, really suck.

The the first 8 bars of the verse is this /G7sus G7/F7sus F7/ That's it. G to F. There are some cool changes for the second 8 bars and the soloists have no problem with those, they're all running lines all over those changes but the basic G to F? No.

What are the soloists doing and I mean RT saxes, trumpets, guitars and even two midi soloists? For each bar they're hitting like one or two totes up high then an octave down so it sounds sort of like dwa di BWA, dwa di BWA each bar until there are the chord changes. No runs or licks, just that and it's unbelievably bad. The BWA is a single note way down low. Finally I created a new test project, same style and 16 bars of the G to F and the solo's sound fine.

What the heck is going on with my original project? That's the same project I opened in RB. Yes I've messed with it a lot, I've probably tried out a dozen styles, changed I don't know how many RT's and the biggie I think is I created a pretty good melody with harmony. Still the basic project as it stands is just 5 tracks and I added an organ and the soloist tracks to make 7. The test project has none of that, brand new song enter those 16 bars, select the style and a soloist and hit Play. It's fine.

I'm just shaking my head here. If some of the newbies see this their first time out, no wonder they think the program needs a complete rewrite. Now I have a decision, do I recreate the song in the new project and import the melody from the old project or use the new project to create some solo parts and import them into the original project?

I'll say this for sure, this is way too much effort for one song.

Erase or changing any track's selected RT doesn't work with me either .... erase should do it, a bug?

The first step to a solution is admitting there is a problem grin

I'm having the same problem. I am working on song that uses RT. I wanted to get some different fills for the drums so I tried regenerating, as recommended previously in the forum. Nothing changed. So then I tried experimenting with other RT's. Nothing changed. So it's "locked" and I don't know what to do.

I know a few people from PG monitor the forum. Could you folks please look into this? Thanks.

I went back and tried erasing the track, then regenerating. No luck.

That one I know about. Years ago when you replaced one RT with another it automatically regenerated but not any more. You can't just let it play, you won't hear your new tracks you have to manually hit Generate and Play.

As for my problem with those Greg Moore RT's I tracked that down. All five of his RT's point to the same RT and I sent it off to Support. This has happened before, it's an easy fix for them. As far as the track being locked, that's a new one and I sent that file to Support too. As for my problem with those solo's I have no idea, that's never happened before.

I think what that is is somehow my original file got corrupted but who knows? I watched that vid about using the new Surface Go with various DAWs. Listen to what he says about all their different quirks. Biab is not alone.

Although a work-around is not as good as a fix, I tried something different. I opened a new song that has only one chord. Then I tried different styles for that song. When I found something in which the snare drum sounds matched or were close, I saved the drums as a wave file. I can take them into RB and edit to get a composite track.

Again, not as good as a fix but maybe you can finish your project.
