Is there a video or a guide on controlling chord substitutions that I've missed?

It's mainly for the bass, it's flat out just playing the wrong note sometimes, I type C9 and it plays a low A sometimes and it sounds god awful.

How do I stop this? I know how to open the chord subs panel from chord settings but I have no idea what it all means without a some sort of guide.

It's rather frustrating...

Thanks in advance for any responses

A couple of thoughts:

1. Try using slash roots to force the bass. Unfortunately, it doesn't work if the root is the same as the chord i.e. C9/C won't work.

2. Tell us what RealTrack is playing this. It might be a bug that can be fixed. This has happened before and they issue a patch.

3. Chord Substitutions exists as a separate dialog in BIAB. I don't think that's what you mean here. That's for taking a chord progression and getting ideas about what could replace it.

If you just want to finish a song, and the bass is the only thing that's misbehaving, you can:

  1. Save the file under another name;
  2. Freeze all the tracks except the bass; and
  3. Simplify the chords until the bass behaves.

It's probably not the best solution, but it'll get the song finished.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I might be able to give you an alternative. If I like your song, I could lay down an actual electric bass track for you if you send me a chord chart and a high quality MP3 file. It’s been awhile since I’ve collaborated with anyone on this forum. Days are getting shorter and I’m spending more time indoors. I’m thankful for those who have done something similar for me in the past.

Try a different style and see if it does the same thing.

This will either confirm or eliminate the style you are using as the cause of the problem.

Sometimes particular styles are simply not 100% compatible with particular songs. It happens with PG styles and with my own styles as well.

Although I've noticed it through the years, I haven't found definite patterns or connections. Instead, I either use a different style or after I export to a DAW play my own bass line.

Hi Mascis,

If you freeze the tracks in a song that has this issue and send it to support@pgmusic.com, we'll be happy to look into it.

Thanks
