I am making progress. Yay!
The mio is sending to my laptop and RB is recording it. The sound I hear is so delayed I can't play in tempo. Any guidance?
Also, so much thanks to all of you. You have been very nice. Kent took pity on me the other day and spent a good bit of time with me. I actually have a VST working.

2b, what you are hearing is called latency. That is usually caused by your audio interface (sound card) drivers. If you are using either a MME or WAS driver change it to ASIO. If your audio interface does not support ASIO drivers then download the free ASIO4ALL driver. The ASIO4ALL driver works most all of the time. The best method is to use the native, the ASIO driver that came with your audio interface, driver. If yours does not support native ASIO drivers then it is time to consider buying a new audio interface.

Thanks, Mario. I knew it was latency but I am not sure what to do about it.
I have a Scarlett 2i2 but it does not have a USB input. I am using a Mio Midi to USB cable, direct from keyboard to computer.
I asked the other day if I should set RB to ASIO for this. That's where I would have to change the setting. Is that what I need to do?

An update. I opened RB and hooked up the Mio. Then I went to Preferences and tried to select ASIO. The only ASIO device it recognizes is my Scarlett 2i2. So I can't select ASIO there.
I hooked it up again. Finally, RB popped up a message that said it appears I have a hardware synth. Do I want to set latency to 0? Of course, I said yes. I don't know why this has not popped up before.
Now it seems to work.
