Just a heads up. If you are a BIAB user with Reaper as your DAW, check out this recent thread over in the Reaper forum. https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=212645Go down into this tread and you will see BIAB files being integrated with Chords and scales. A quick peek and it looks pretty cool...

Why might I need this script?
Exactly what does it do?
It's easy to do tracks in BIAB/Realband and dragging them into Reaper is a snap so if possible, could someone who's read that thread expound on my two questions?
Thanks

Very interesting. ReaTracks appears to be an awesome new feature for Reaper, but one of his early references was to BiaB .. so it'll be interesting to observe PGs response to this. We've asked for a BB VST(i) for a while (so we can generate tracks in other DAWs). Maybe other developers got tired of waiting and devised a way for, essentially, User Tracks to be implemented (which is what ReaTracks are, far as I can tell; not professional recordings, but user contributed tracks).. I'm guessing it won't be long before you can buy studio quality ReaTracks though. The implementation is probably not as deep as BiaB, but they started down the path.
@Sundance; yes it is much easier to just use BiaB/RB from the start but I think the point of the post is that other DAWs now realize the ability to create ReaTracks (or user created RealTracks as we know them) is a very cool feature. Before this BB was unique in it's ability to do this. As a BiaB user I wouldn't worry about running the scripts and customizing Reaper just yet if you aren't comfortable with doing so. But the feature may be coming soon in native Reaper, which would be a game changer.

This is a bit confusing, I see him opening a SGU file but then what's displayed is XML. Is that a Biab file that Biab converted to XML or did Reaper do that? The idea that other DAW's are encroaching on Biab is very true. I just saw some vids about Studio One 4's new Chord Track, here's two but there are many more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_VFYjwnD8EThis one is very basic but he's using the Chord Track to create a brand new bass part. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iwe7ECDJuUThe guy spends most of the first half of the vid explaining all the mouse clicks, it gets really interesting at the 12 minute mark. First, it has basically the Audio Chord Wizard, then and this blew my mind, it can actually change the chords in an audio file! This is Melodyne territory so I suspect that since Studio One is fully integrated with Melodyne that's how they're doing it but that's just a guess. This is not duplicating Biab because there's no mention of styles but maybe that's available too, dunno. Still, to be able to detect the chords then apply them to create a brand new track AND then change the chords in both an audio and midi track is pretty good and is definitely getting into Biab territory. Bob Here is what the OP says in the thread: "...There are also tracks here https://www.realband.org/guitars.html that may work, if you don't have Biab you would need to open the SGU chord file with https://musescore.org save to musicxml then import to Reaper then color the regions and save the csv file for the wav. If you have Biab export to MusicXML" Otherwise, I am still trying to figure out exactly what is going on in these scripts.

In that case Biab really has nothing to do with this other than it can create an XML file with chords. This vid is really showing how Reaper can work with XML. There are several threads here about using XML files in various DAW's. Some work well, some don't but I can certainly see the value in it. Matt has done a lot of this and he's said that different programs will create XML's is different ways but since it's just a text file you can edit it.
Since I've been checking out Studio One 4 and Notion I just checked and Notion will import XML. That means if I want better notation than Biab has I could import a Biab created XML into Notion and the song layout and chords will be there. That would save a ton of time since I wouldn't have to create a new song chart from scratch.
Just remembered, I saw a Reaper vid a few months ago about a new notation function. If it's good and now we know Reaper can import XML that could be an cheaper way to get better notation than buying a separate program like Notion. But, Notion is also fully integrated into Studio One and includes some really good orchestral software instrument samples...Choices, choices.
Bob

FYI - The free Musescore2 https://musescore.org/enwill read a number of file types including MIDI, XML and BiaB files.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.
