I was unaware of Lil Peep's untimely passing. So sad when talent passes too early. In homage, I submit this for the consideration of songwriters everywhere.

R.I.P. Lil Peep.

I was sad to Peep go. New hip hop isn't generally my bag (I'm in my late 30s, and prefer stuff from the 90s and aughts), but his songs had a lot more emotion and vulnerability than we usually see in the genre.

I think the best art comes from pain, and he clearly had plenty of it.

Cheers

I watched the video. He looked wasted to start with.....popping pills and that didn't look like tobacco.

Is it really a surprise he died?

So sad for many of our youth today. A tragedy of drugs and alcohol and an insidious evil promoted by the music industry fat cats. Whatever happened to be the best you can be?

From Wikipedia:

"On November 15, 2017, Lil Peep was found dead on his tour bus when his manager went to check on him in preparation for that night's performance at a Tucson, Arizona venue.[98] Foul play was not suspected,[99] with his death believed to be from an overdose.[100] In a series of Instagram posts in the hours leading up to his death, Lil Peep claimed to have ingested psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana concentrate. In another, he claimed to have consumed six Xanax pills following a video depicting his attempts to drop an unidentified pill into his mouth several times before successfully swallowing one and shaking a full prescription bottle."

"On December 8, the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner released details from a toxicology report, certifying the cause of death was an accidental overdose due to the effects of the pain medications fentanyl and alprazolam.[33] Blood tests tested positive for cannabis, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol. Urine tests also showed the presence of multiple powerful opiates, including Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone and Oxymorphone. There was no alcohol in his system.[1]"

It's a small wonder he was depressed. He was a walking medicine cabinet.

50 years ago he would have been committed to a mental institution, to prevent him from harming himself.

In today's world, he's a star.

Regards,

Bob

He was taken way too soon. He died literally like a week after his 21st birthday.

While personally not a giant fan of his music, he definitely had a major impact on the direction hip hop took in recent years. His music had a lot of darkness and vulnerability, something you don't find much in hip hop music. It's a shame he didn't get the help he deserved.

R.I.P. Lil Peep frown

I wasn't familiar with Lil Peep, and ended up looking at a number of videos and articles as a result of your post. It's a sad story.

From what I've gathered, it's the other way around:

That's still the case in at least 37 states.

Even 50 years ago, the stay would have been temporary. Are you suggesting that involuntary commitment would have a better outcome?

Involuntary commitment can actually serve as a disincentive to seek mental health care.

Does this quote from 1969 sound familiar?

While not a fan of the music, I get the impression that he was a star mostly because he put in the hard work.

I suppose these were all prescribed by a mental health professional, right? grin

At least he would still be alive.

There's no question he died of a self-inflicted drug overdose.

But it seemed that you were saying his depression was caused by the drugs.

He had severe mental health issues before the drug abuse. Based on what he said in interviews, it seems that his underlying condition of mental illness was worsening, and likely driving the drug abuse.

Incarcerating people for mental illness isn't anything close to a cure.

Even 50 years ago, they'd only be able to hold him for a limited time, and then he'd be back on the street. A week, a month, a year... Sometimes there's not much you can do except watch helplessly as someone self-destructs.

Truthfully, I wasn't impressed by the music or the video. Listening to emo hip hop isn't something that's on my To-Do list.

But the more I read about him, the more I was impressed by what he accomplished, despite the tragic ending.

Thanks for posting it!

Precisely.

A combination of cannabis, cocaine and the painkiller Tramado, is likely to make one depressed. Add into that mix, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone and Oxymorphone, and now that's a PARTY!

My mother was a psychiatric nurse for over 40 years. I am fully aware of the ravages of mental illness, and the need for "incarcerating" people who are out of control. Sometimes, you can save their lives.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
