Does anyone have experience controlling external gear from BIAB? I use BIAB live and I've recently started using an AX8. I wonder if midi commands in a BIAB song could change AX8 settings?

Thanks

I don't think you can program Midi Control Changes and their values freely in BIAB, and no SYSex data for your AX8. Maybe only Program Changes for GM2. Could be that in Realband slightly more is possible. You could try however via slaving another MIDI sequencer program to BIABs MIDI Clock, in which you could program your MIDI along a time line. There should be quite 'simple' stuff around to do that with, and most DAWs can do that too, if you need to program certain sysex data. F.i. Cubase PRO has extensive programming abilities for SYSex, older versions already had that. Also note that BIAB can't be slaved to an external MIDI clock or MTC alas; a wish many users have had for ages ..... F

Hmmm - yeah, thanks.

Seeing ctrlr reminds me that I use to set up control panels for midi devices in the original Cakewalk. And yes, I'm pretty sure I could use a DAW such as CW or Ableton Live, but I'd have to render each of my BIAB files and insert SYSex at appropriate points.

I use BIAB live (mostly jazz-based restaurant type gigs) as great sounding backing tracks with chord-sheets that real-time indicate measure and scroll, all on a small laptop. Simple. No charts to keep up with, no audio tracks to manage. And BIAB has been sufficiently stable to do this for many years.

BIAB as is does a fair job (I know of none better) serving this live-use niche. Would be nice if someone focused more on this.
