Hi all

Do I need it .

Well I can see the 64 bit version is causing quite a bit of excitement on here , after many discussions in the past and wish list for it.
But I have to ask do I really need it in 64 bit the only difference seems to be in the actual exe program , all the underlying programme itself seem to be the same for both versions to preserve compatibility with 32 bit users ,
So if I don’t want or need to integrate with other 64 bit bits and bobs.
What am I gaining I do have 64 bit windows but have been fine with the 32 bit version.
Does the 64 bit version take up more resources by padding out the 32 bit underlying stuff to make it run in 64.
Just my thoughts I will buy it anyway but may still run as 32 unless you can convince me otherwise you 64 bit fans

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

I think the answer is what do you do with BiaB. If you run RTs and RDs then 32 bit might be your best choice. If you run 64 bit VSTis and/or use 64 bit effects then the 64 bit version should be better as there would be no workarounds like jBridge needed.

Also are we sure that the underlying program is identical for both versions? My bet is on they optimized BiaB for 64 bit so there would be some differences between both versions.

Mike, since you are upgrading to 2019, you will have both versions to try out.

Myself, I am happy with the 64bit version since all of my other audio programs I use are 64bit also.

Best thing to do is to run both versions and if you see something in the 64bit version that works better for you, us it. Otherwise stay with the 32bit version.

I prefer the x64 versions. One thing that has changed my mind is that I no longer have BIAB momentarily stall while loading or running other memory hungry programs like I used to have with the 2014,2015,2016,2017 and 2018 32bit versions. That problem was constantly happening.

I have ran Excel, Word, Reaper, Outlook, File Explorer, Notepad++, Amazing Slowdowner, TablEdit, VLC Media Player, Transcribe and a slew of smaller programs and utilities all at the same time trying my best to make the x64 version stumble but so far have been unable to.

Mario, I believe Peter Gannon said that the two versions were compiled together, which would indicate they are (or should be) identical.

So far nobody has found any difference in functionality other than the PG effects won't work but they should be in 64 bit later on. For now if you like using those effects use 32 bit.

The real reason imho for 64 bit is the VST plugin plus the marketing aspect of it. Mo more complaints and five page threads about why isn't Biab 64 bit which is a good thing.

Hi

Thank you all for your responses.
As I thought then no point in me running 64 bit then, as 32 does all I want.

No point in risking a bigger foot print than I need , something I am still not certain about that, any one know if the running program footprint is more if running 64 bit
From the PCs point of view. Leaving less resources for running other programs at the same time say, Word or Adobe photo shop for editing screen shots etc.

I am SOOO in agreement. I have been using BiaB for many years.
For me, it simply froze or crashed way too often using VSTi's, even with jBridge.

I only use 2018 BiaB with Coyote for midi, then open in RB to generate extra RT's, and then export them all to my DAW.

But with 64-bit, I expect to actually be able to use my high quality VSTi's.
And I decided to upgrade to Audiophile this year, so I'm excited about that.

Hey Mike....

I'm running a 32 Bit XP pro OS. So I'm going to be using the 32 bit version.

The main difference is the speed and functionality that you get plus the ability to access more than 4 GB of memory and use the Quad cores to their fullest.

Everything is is dependent on that foundation.

At some point I know I will have to upgrade to a 64 bit OS. But until then.... If it ain't broke... don't try to fix it.

I got news for you.... it's already running in CD quality.... 24/44.1kbs. The quality of the VSTs's are professional quality. Maybe not Coyote or TTS.... but if you are running any of the NI stuff.... you could already have been there for years. Ditch the Coyote for the final mix.

64 bit isn't a big deal to me, since I only use BIAB to generate dry tracks for tweaking in other software that is 64 bit (and that's where I'll be using plugins)

My Bad. I should have said, "export them all to my DAW ... where I can & have been using high quality VSTi's."
The hope for 2019 is that I can also use them in BiaB.

Well, this is probably the biggest reason to use 64 bit. For years everybody on every music forum anywhere said to not run uneeded programs when doing music work. But if you're going to do that anyway, 64 bit allows your system to use all of it's memory so one program that might be a memory hog doesn't mess up what you're trying to do with Biab. 32 bit only allows for 4 gigs of ram to be used regardless of you having way more than that on your system. 64 bit will access all of your memory.

According to Peter in a post a few years ago his testing showed Jbridge allowed for full memory access as well in Biab but how that works if there are other memory intensive apps running at the same time as Biab wasn't mentioned. Probably because it's SOP in music production to not do that.

Hi Bob,

What does "SOP" mean? I understand the rest of your post, but "SOP" I don't understand.

Will,
I think in this context it is an acronym for 'Standard Operating Procedures'

No question, that’s what he meant. In digital audio you always exit programs that you don’t need running.

Your answer is yes.

I activated the 64bit version and then checked the 32bit version and it was activated also.

I may have mentioned this in another post, but the ability to use BIAB in live playing situations where top-quality sounds are desired in the "Thru" MIDI channel was just not possible even with Jbridge. The stability of using Native Instruments and the like was not enough to last two tunes.

For those who play an instrument like a wind controller with BIAB as a "backing band" this is a game changer. Also, the BIAB feature to use Thru Harmonies in REAL TIME is a game changer. Using a "SuperSax" harmony with a really good horn section sounds pretty amazing.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
