Lots of good examples recently of Blues progressions and RT examples.

So here is another. But this 12 bar bues is how we play it on the North Side of the City.

Up Town Blues

In order to maintain the "grand illusion" that music is, I won't say what is "LIve" and what is "Real". See if you can guess?

Hi Dan,

Did you download the uploaded file and have a listen? I suggest you do. I'm not sure if you intended the music this way, but I get a very distorted sound that's not too ear-friendly. I can nearly hear the better quality music behind it. I downloaded the file twice to double-check. Same issue both times.

Regards,
Noel

It sounds great to me Noel but I am curious what that chord progression is. It is a strange twelve bar blues. I am about to grab my bass right now and figure it out. Thanks Dan.

Thanks, Zebra. I just downloaded it for a 3rd time and, this time, it sounds great. I have no idea what happened the other two times - maybe ethernet gremlins or sunspots. Very nice work, Jazzmandan

Good of you to notice. It is a very sweet minor progression. We always called it UpTown Blues to reflect a more Jazzy then Blues feeling. I will post it when i get home. I am sure you will enjoy it on the bass. ALthough, listen to that guy on the RealBass, he is laying down some cool lines.

Here is the 12 bar minor chord progression

And to save you some time, here it is as the backing track typed into BIAB. You’ll see I inserted 16 bars into the middle to allow the Horns some room to solo.

If you like it, try some different styles and post your version.

Oh my, I think I see an error in my chord charts. Those diminished chords are voiced in the chart diagram as half-diminished (m7b5) rather than full diminished (bb7). I actually play them as written, but typed them into BIAB as dim. I will have to fix this in the chart.

I think this brings up a very old discussion in the forum about how BIAB does not distinquish between the full and half diminished. So BIAB is playing a half diminished (which is what I wanted) rather then a full diminished which is what I entered in BIAB. Can anyone with a "good ear" confirm this for me?

Otherwise, I don't want to bring this old issue again, but I did just notice this for the first time. I know some of you purists can go on and on about this stuff
