Hello everyone, since the update of BIAB 2018 ultrapack to BIAB 2019 the asio of my audio interface "Yamaha steinberg UR242 is no longer recognized, I have the following message" GETchannels failed ", MME is ok, asio4all is ok, on the other hand in REAPER the asio usb ur242 is well recognized, I reinstalled the driver yamaha steinberg, then the asio4all but I still have the same problem, I use for now asio4all, it works well, do you have an idea to solve this problem, thank you for your help

Hi Alain,

Thanks for reporting this. When the error occurred, were you running the 32 or 64 bit version of Band-in-a-Box? You can check this in Help > About Band-in-a-Box (in the top right below the version number it will say). If it is the 64 bit version, does the error also occur with the 32 bit version?

Does the error occur when you hit Play, or when opening the program?

One other thing to check: I’m sure you know this, but was there any other audio program that uses ASIO running at the same time?

I would expect MME to run if that were the case, and ASIO4ALL, which is not ASIO.

Hello, the error occurs when I go into the audio options, audio drivers and when I select yamaha steinberg usb audio, this happens in 32 and 64 bits, as I have previously emphasized the usb asio of my interface UR242 works very well in "reaper"
Thanks for your help

Alain, what sample rate and bit rate are you using in Windows? You should be sure to set that at 44.1, 16-bit (CD quality). Try that and report back (and let me know if you need help checking/setting it). That may account for the fact your system works in other programs (DAWs are designed to adapt to different rates), but BIAB requires these specific CD-quality settings.

Matt,
Looks like this thread went dead, so I hope you don't mind if I jump in here with a similar question.

I see what you're saying about bit rate and depth for BIAB ---- 44.1Khz and 16-bit.
I'm using ASIO with an Audient id14 USB interface, and every program I use is set to 24-bit 48Khz, and that's my default setting.
But, when I run BIAB, 32 or 64, the settings automatically change and lock in at 44.1Khz. When I go back to Reaper, for example, it reverts back to 48Khz. All of this was setup a couple years ago for video editing (my cell phone defaults to 48Khz) and I just ran with that in Reaper projects.

But now I see what happens with BIAB. It's rather weird....... BIAB forces the Audient interface to 44.K, but my Windows settings still stay at 48K! Problem is, do I reset all my default settings to 44.1Khz now. I'm concerned that previously recorded stuff at 48K will have sync issues, speed up, etc. Also, I noticed some songs had audio at 48K, some had 44.K --- and if they're mixed in on a MIDI song, things get out of sync real quick.

What would be the best way to proceed for me? Does BIAB or RealBand somehow compensate the audio of differing rates? Thanks for any advice.

I always work at 44.1 kHz, old habit working with audio and CD productions mostly. If you work for video 48 kHz is usually the way to go.

Funny, i cannot set BIAB internally to 48kH, it's always 44.1, and i cannot find were to choose between 44.1 and 48.

Setting my RME interface to 48kHz without BIAB loaded it stays that way, also with f.i Cubase running.

But when i load BIAB with first choosing 48.000 as value, BIAB then switches it to 44,1. The RME's control panels frequency button blanks out. (picture 2)

I tend to think that BIAB (and Realband?) are made for 44.1 kHz use only; it's the chosen sample rate for the Realtracks and maybe BIAB can't work with other sampling frequencies .... It's too much calculating transferring RTs to 48000 kHz so the option is not there?

==> See pictures, first one NO BIAB, and i can choose 48.000, second one BIAB switches it back to 44,1 automatically and blanks the choice option out. F

The principle I follow, right or wrong, is to stay with 16 bit, 44.1K sample rate in BIAB.

A DAW is able to import audio of differing bit or sample rates and convert everything to your preferred setting (mine is 24 bit, 44.1K). Then you do your mixing etc. and as the final step, convert to 44.1, 16 bit for distribution.

2 DAW reasons for working with 48kHz are a slightly better sound quality; 20% more data, and it's standard with video work.

Changing 44.1 to 48 does not improve sound quality IMO, as there are 20% extra interpolated empty samples created converted files. I choose to work with 24bit, or even 32bit mostly, and stick to 44.1 kHz. Thereby avoiding extra steps and mistakes later on.

for me there is very little reason to run BiaB on ASIO I run it in either MME or WAS ASIO just is not a need. In the DAW I run ASIO from my Presonus Audiobox

BiaB doesn't really need multiple tracks coming in like a DAW.

just a thought

Fiddler : I choose to work with 24bit, or even 32bit mostly, and stick to 44.1 kHz.

Yes, 44.1KHz makes sense to me for audio. 48KHz would be for audio associated with video work.

Have Fun!

Hello Peter, funny, i had that feeling yesterday; worked with 64bit for some 2 weeks now, and i don't really need to access more than 4GB of ram for BIAB.

For Realband that might be a different thing, but i prefer to work with Cubase anyway; too lazy to change horses, as being used to the Steinberg stuff for too long maybe. Why the VST seems quite interesting once 'finished'. Who knows what the future brings; the Chinese are reaching for the moon (hopefully they'll forget about Taiwan doing so meanwhile).

BTW compliments on your staff etc. with the stability of BIAB, never had a serious crash so far sine 607. Remember some earlier releases with far more and quite later released updates to get rolling right. F

@ Photodoc. The reason why your Windows Sound setting stays at 48k even if BIAB has apparently changed your soundcard to 44.1k is because you are using the Audient ASIO drivers in BIAB and Reason. ASIO drivers completely bypass the operating system sound drivers and talk directly to the soundcard without going anywhere near Windows. smile

OK ryclark, and all the others fiddler, Matt, Rob, and Peter.
Thanks for all your comments, makes more sense now.... just needed to confirm that what I'm seeing is the way it works!

Peter, I held off on the update for a bit, jumped in with version 610, and as fiddler commented, I haven't had any crashes either.
Can't say I've pushed the VST plugin to any kind of limits, but the basics are working with Reaper for me so far.
