I always run BIAB using the static, legacy names rather than have the names change to reflect the instrument on them. These static names remain constant, independent of what instrument sits on them. In addition, these static names are the basis of the symbols used to exclude instruments with shots, holds and rests.

To turn of the dynamic naming feature...

1. Open preferences

2. Deselect 'Show custom track labels...' and 'Auto-generate track labels' as shown on the image below


Then, if you have two guitars, say one on the Piano track and one on the String track, all that needs to be typed is X.ps -- where X = a chord, the period is a 'rest' and the 'ps' tells BIAB to ignore the rest for whatever instruments are on the Piano and String tracks.
