Hello,
Just got BIAB 2019 installed from hard drive on to my computer... the whole thing. At first it came up with BIAB 32 bit, but then I made a shortcut for BBW64.exe and it came up correctly.
I tried a BB song that I had worked on a month ago, and it loaded ok. But when I played that song the count-in at the beginning of the song was terribly distorted and completely the wrong tempo! Which in turn made the sound for the beginning of the song not play until the count-in was finished.
I tried another song (actually a different version of the same song) and it did the same thing. So I tried just inputting a short song... did a 3 verse 12-bar blues. Then tried it. Worked fine!!! So then I saved the song, and tried it again. Back to the distorted, out of time, count-in!
Don't know what else to try here. I'm hoping that the programmers have some ideas.
Oh, yeah... that count-in seems to always be the same style (a kind of slow hard rock style, not really sure) regardless of the style I pick for the current song! So somehow I guess BIAB is always picking this bad file as my count-in?
Anyone? It's unusable as it is.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Does this also happen with the 32-bit version of BIAB 2019?

Currently I'm getting same results when I check "use VSIi/DXiSynth" in the MIDI/Audio Drivers setup page and solo any of the Midi or RealTracks...

That's a good idea,Noel. No, I haven't tried that yet. But I will, shortly!
-----------------
OK, Noel! I did as you suggested, and tried the 32 bit version. To make it more scientific, I used the same songs and replaced the styles with the same ones as before. I outlined that part in my response to VideoTrack.
All of the songs played beautifully with all of the different styles I used in the 32 bit BIAB! There were NO problems with the count-in. So, whatever it is, is related to the 64 bit version of the program (or my computer's ability to process 64 bit programming?).
I still think it's a bad file somewhere, as it is consistent in behavior between every song I played and only appeared during the count-in measure.
Does this give you any clues, Noel? BTW, thanks to all of you for jumping in here. I appreciate it!
Jim

VideoTrack,
The first song was previously saved with _UNUSUAL.STY, and I tried _METRO.STY. Both were distorted during the count-in.
Second song was previously saved with _INSPIRE.STY. I changed it to _MAIN ST.STY, then to _NIFTY.STY. All three of those produced the distorted and slow count-in.
The last song was one I just put together for a test earlier today. When I simply input the chords and played it, it sounded fine. But when I saved it as a BB song, then it produced the same distortion. I used _CRIMSON.STY, and _PUSHY.STY.
I don't think it's related to the actual styles, because when the song is past the count-in stage, then it sounds like it should. But there is a style that apparently has a corrupted file structure or something and it's being loaded each time for the count-in (or possibly not being un-loaded at the end?). That's just my guess because I really do not know.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
I'm trying to replicate the issue, but haven't been able to yet. If you go to Options - Preferences - Audio, what's the Audio Driver Type?
Thanks Kent PG Music

Hi, Kent!
It says WAS, although I have an ASIO driver installled. It shows my interface, which is a Steinberg UR22. I tried to change the driver to ASIO, but it said it couldn't find it and the output would be silent (?). It works fine on my DAW, though, which is Reaper 64 bit.
Hope this info is helpful. Thanks for your help on this issue!
Jim

Thanks for the suggestion, Bloc-head, but that only made matters worse. Both the distortion and the timing. But I think we're on the right track to have any kind of difference noted. Thank you!

Jim, a wild guess, but it worked for one user:
Options, Return to Factory Settings. Then reboot the computer.
When you do that, you have a choice to first save your current settings to a file.

Good idea, Matt! I'll try that!
Thanks!
Jim
-----------------
Well, Matt... that didn't do it, unfortunately. Didn't make any difference at all. Such a strange problem, but totally confined to the 64 bit version. Which is, of course, the whole reason I purchased this upgrade.
I wonder if the PG Music folks have any ideas, yet?
Thanks to all of you!
Jim

Jim, Have a look at the below webpage. This is my setup for Audio and MIDI. Set everything that is numbered. https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=461558#Post461558The two differences for BIAB64's settings that you'll need to make are: (a) where I mention Coyote WT, for BIAB 64-bit this needs to be set to VSTSynthFont64 (b) #3 needs to be set to "General MIDI Instument Misc" Let us know if this helps or doesn't help. Regards, Noel

No, Noel, that didn't work either.
My settings were working ok in everything but this count-in with the 64 bit version, and even there in the 32 bit.
I just tried something, which didn't fix the problem, but made an interesting experiment:
I did a drag-drop of the song to an mp3. The rendered version does not show that distorted count-in! It's fine on the mp3! How weird is that?
Wish I had a way to capture the sound so that you could hear it. Might be an "aha!" moment for somebody?
Just to recap, what I have done so far:
1. Tried the 32 bit BIAB with same songs, which worked great. 2. Loaded factory defaults for the 64 bit version: no change. 3. Changed settings according to Bloc-Head's advice: no change. 4. Changed settings according to Noel's advice: no change. 5. Attempted to render the song to show it's distortion: rendered mp3 sounds fine!
I may have done a few other things that I don't remember.
What about trying to re-install BIAB 2019? Is that worth a try?
Thanks, Noel, for your help. And to everyone else, as well.
Jim

Oh, c'mon. The count-in is distorted and the wrong tempo? That's all? Imagine the fun you could have.
A little more seriously, did you mention what sound card / audio output device you are using? This is another wild guess based on some other reports.

Hi, Matt! It certainly does make it interesting... especially trying to come in at the right time when playing along! I think I mentioned it before, but I use a Steinberg UR22 interface. Can't imagine how that would be the problem since it all works fine on the 32bit version, and on 64 bit after it gets done mangling the count-in. I tried to use a screen capture program to make a video of this, but of course I can't get that to work either (mainly because I've never used it before! lol). Tried to find out what files BB loads when you load a song, but I'm not a programmer and probably wouldn't recognize it if it hit me in the face. Unless someone else comes up with a better idea, I think I may try to re-install BB2019. I keep thinking a corrupted file somewhere. Thanks, Matt

Jim, I don't mess with screen capture video, either. John Ford just stuck an iPhone in front of his computer and took a rudimentary movie. It was VERY helpful in hearing what he heard, and for us to see it. You could try that. Save the movie in a public Dropbox and post a link. Not terribly complicated.

Jim,
As another test, close BIAB, unplug your Steinberg USB device from the computer and restart the program.
Does that make a difference?

No, that didn't do it either, Noel. Still distorted and crappy through the computer speakers without the interface. Hopefully you guys can download that short clip I did on my phone.
Thanks,
Jim
