Band-in-a-Box VST and Pro Tools/AAX DAW Plugin (Windows)

I've followed all the Cakewalk instructions, opening DAW plugin as a soft synth effect on an audio track.
I opened an existing BB song file. It took 500 years to generate but then when clicking the play button, I can see it moving from bar to bar but there's no sound, even though the track output is routed properly and all other tracks are playing fine.
I'm using the latest version of the BB plugin and the latest version of Cakewalk. Still no sound.
Is anyone else managing to get it to work in Cakewalk? If so, what is the secret of sound?
Also, is everyone else finding it soooooooooooooo slow to generate?
I was really looking forward to this feature because I had lots of problems with dragging and dropping to Cakewalk in previous versions of BB but I don't yet see how this apparently stripped-down version of BB is really going to improve my workflow. Hope it will at some point.

It’s possible that the DAW has exclusive use of the audio card. In that case, the plugin audition may be silent, just drag the files to Cakewalk where they will play. Furutre versions of the plugin may use the host DAW audio to overcome this issue, either that, or set Cakewalk to not have ex,cursive control of the audio.
