When I select piano roll, I can only see the midi events of the pedal steel, not so for the bass, drums or else. But changing the events does not effect the steel playíng- how could it, if its audio, I see- but why are they displayed then and no others? Well, I once had the data for bass and could change it, might have been a midi only track. How can I get an intro to a song, like may be "pledging my love" by Percy Sledge or elseone with just the pedal steel playing the melody to get into the song?

Am I on the "woodway".........

Hi sac,

To access each track's midi events it's necessary to select one of the buttons I've highlighted on the image below. By default, the selection is the Melody track.

To silence instruments for a intro or at various points throughout the song, the easiest way is to use "Bar Settings".

"Bar Settings" is accessed by right-clicking on a blank section of the chord sheet and selecting it from the menu that appears. The shortcut is F5.

To silence a track it is necessary to "Mute" it at the first bar of the planned silent section and then reset it to "Back to normal" on the first bar of the non-silent section.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel and thank you for your assistance.
I`m familiar with the highlighted buttons t change between the instruments, thats why I came to pedal steel and realized, that it`s the only instrument with the midievents shown, also it is, I suggest, real instrument, and changeing the events does not affect the chords beeing played- I know, how could this, if its played on a real instrument, but why then show the midi events? Ok, it`s helpful in the way, that one could learn playing the steel guitar.....
First time I suggested it must be a very good midisound and beeing recorded may be by a midipickup on a steel guitar. That would have been nice!!!!!
I want to understand, what I´m working with, thats why I`m asking for.

The bar settings I also know how to silence, but can`t get a real good intro or ending. I suggest, I have to play a melody on a keyboard and record it to the song, so there would be a "following" by the programm itsself.

By this time, I couldn`t find out, how to place an event (note) manually into the grid/piano roll a.s.o., also I can`t hear a sound when clicking on the keyboard, that is showed on the left side of the piano roll.
Maybe I`m too stuck to the way how it`s in Cubase done- just click mouse button and hold to the lenght of the note.

The reason there are MIDI events with the pedal steel is because it must have notation associated with it. Many Realtracks have notation associated with them so that users can see what is being played. This notation is not always a direct reflection of the instrument's playing because it is usually added after the audio has been recorded and someone has worked out what was played. The notation has no impact on the notes that the Realtracks play so changing it will not do anything to the Realtrack.

If a Realtrack has associated notation, it is shown as a green line under the track now on the top, horizontal row of tracks.

One thing that I find useful from time to time is that this notation can be saved as a MIDI file. I can then use these MIDI files in a DAW with soft synths.

To enter notes in Piano Roll mode, hold down SHIFT+ENTER. The piano keyboard does not play in BIAB, it's used primarily as a selection tool (i.e. all C4 notes, etc) or a pitch guide when entering notes. Notes will play when entered or if the piano roll note is clicked on.

To facilitate note entry, it is also a good idea to set Snap and Dur (i.e. note duration). These are immediately to the right of the track-selection buttons.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Well, I see, thanks Noel. I was wondering, why this is on the more complex pedal steel only, not on a simple guitar a/o the bass and the drums, but ok, it is this way.

With your help I got the "pencil"- on my german layout keyboard it is shift and strg, so easy, when realized! Snap and duration can be helpful now and then, yes, but often one doesn`t want the "straight" feeling.
b. t. w. Is there an easy way/shortcut also to get the roll further or backwards without clicking play/from? I can`t get to the place I want to...
same with lyrics, that are often missplaced. I use 2016 ultra- many youtube vids use different- maybe older- versions, some look much different to mine. Therefore I prefer "personal assistance"- thanks so much.
