64-bit XP did not work well with many applications. And most folks only had 32-bit XP. It will never run any 64-bit application (not even 64-bit plugins using jbridge), because the addressing space is not compatible. I don't ever recall seeing a system for sale with 64-bit XP; you generally had to buy that version separately and install it yourself.
