This is not a bug, but a feature, and one of my favorite ones at that.

In a "real world" setting, a given instrument will either start a few notes early (lead in) and/or end a few notes late (I think it's called a tail).

You actually can disable this. I don't have it with me at the moment, and can't recall exactly where the settings are found, but if no-one has supplied this info within the next hour or so, I will post a screenshot of the relevant dialogue box.
