Hi PGM folks, Let me preface my comments by saying that I LOVE BIAB/RB- LOVE IT! That being said, I'd like to pass on some suggestions to the developers. At this point, I'm only interested in Jazz. Additional styles or RealTracks additions in other genres don't interest me personally. I sometimes find myself limited to a handful of players, and particularly soloists/solos that are up to my standards. If I could purchase more guitar solos, by, or on par with the amazing Mike Moreno, more piano from Jeff Lorber and Mike LeDonne, it would be much more useful to me than large, blanket revisions across all genres. I'd really love to see a better trumpet soloist, and one or two quality trumpet parts to use in horn blocks/stabs, to compliment my woodwinds.

The current nature of the annual update is similar to a cable TV package, where you're paying for many religious, shopping, and Latin channels that you're not going to use. :>) I recently did a tune using FUNK16.STY, where I was restricted to literally one player/part for each of the rhythm instruments, so I do think that some variety in Jazz is missing. I'm a strong horn player so I don't need woodwinds, but for those Jazzers that do, I feel that Phil Woods' alto is an antiquated sound, with Eric Alexander's tenor being much more tasteful for today, as would an Eric Marienthal on alto. Thank you for your time!

Warren, this is very sensible reasoning for a fairly often-seen request: to package the add-on RealTracks and styles as an option by genre. Right now they have them by jazz, but there's fifteen of them: https://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.realtracks.jazz.htm

I'm a jazz horn player too. I hope they don't make TOO good a trumpet soloist - that's my job. I can also play some woodwinds so I understand your comments about the sax players. Some, maybe even a plurality, of the jazz users here are older and may prefer the older sax sound. I'm with you for Eric Alexander. PG Music has quite a task supplying more and more RealTracks to please all, even within jazz. Did you know both Eric Alexander and Eric Marienthal are in BIAB on RealTracks? Search for "Eric" and you'll see. And here's the full list: https://www.pgmusic.com/realtracks.artists.php?os=win

There's a plus-pak from a few years back of Jeff Lorber. I'll look to see if it's still available. I love his tracks that I do have.

Anyway, I suggest you make two more posts: one in Styles Wishlist, where you can specify the soloists you want, and the other in the Wishlist, where you can request packages sold as a complete genre or even sub-genre.

Andy Leftwich's superb fiddling and mandolin playing i really enjoy, and for myself i need a lot less time fiddling around when i want to create some bluegrass related stuff. Only for strict melody related solos it seems necessary still to blow a handmade wistle whistle F

Warren,

Thanks for the comments. I agree with them, and hopefully we can see some of them in 2020. We have already booked at least one of them for 2020.

Please send any other suggestions that you have.

Have Fun!

Matt Finley, I realized after my post that Marienthal is included- he's tremendous! But again, I'm a good saxophonist. I need a Sean Jones on trumpet! Dr. G, great to know that you have sessions booked for the 2020 version. Dr. Gannon, if it's OK I'd like to write you directly on this. The moment I turned towards an even 'EV' feel for Jazz- be it Fusion, Funk, or Latin, I have no soloists to work with and very limited rhythm tracks as well. Thanks for all you do!

Peter,
as you know, I will love to see more double bass real track jazz swing soloists in Band in a Box. Brian Bromberg would be great, as he plays wonderfully melodic solos.

Hi Warren. Glad you found what they do have.

I agree, even eighths are essential in Latin, and more modern sounding in jazz and funk. Good idea.

Whatever you decide to do, make a post in the Styles Wishlist anyway, and give some example sounds and/or artists. That really increases the chance PG Music will implement it.
