mmmmmmmm, maybe the problem is that the drones on the pipes - unlike scottish bagpipes - can be played at different chords/bass notes but i think the keys they can play in are quite limited and the chords very simple.

so playing over chord changes for a real track would be difficult. however i'm not an expert on the pipes but i'm sure they are quite limited in their ability to play as a harmonic instrument with other players

years ago i played in folk clubs and can only remember pipers like Finbar Furey playing solo or maybe with a guitarist. i remember the McPeakes too and i think the pipes always played on their own.
